[BC] Telus B890 Smart Hub ports blocked ?

I am an (AMATEUR) Radio operator, a senior, and physically handicaped. And did I mention I have been a Telus customer for 55 years ! ? I just purchased the 250 Mb smart hub (Huawei B890) deal from Telus. I previously had Xplornet, but found the latency was getting way too long to use (AMATEUR) radio internet linking. Amateur Radio Internet Linking (IRLP) is used to connect AMATEURS to other AMATEURS, and AMATEUR sevices all over the world. It is frequently used for Emergency communications and services in the event of a disaster, or event requiring EMERGENCY communications . While trying to set up the IRLP (node) again, it is appearing like just about all the ports I need are being blocked by Telus. As I am getting no response from "myagent@telus.com", , Can someone please tell me how I can get these ports open for AMATEUR RADIO use ? I have tried DMZ zone with no results. It appears Telus is blocking these ports. The ports I need open are: 2074-2093, 5198-5199 udp, Also, 53 tcp&udp, 21,80873,8245,10000,12000-12001, 15425-15429 TCP Tnx, Ric, aka: VE7CUP

Actiontec wifi upgrade 5ghz?

Hi, I have got a V1000 and been an optik customer for many years with no issues. I live in a townhouse and have been noticing the 2.4ghz wifi spectrum to become increasingly congested. I noticed the new Actiontec t3200 has 5ghz. The tablet is taking a much longer time to associate with the A/P and just browsing page by page is getting increasingly slow. Any suggestions as to what to try? Not a huge issue but it's been getting worse over the time as there is lots of neighboring A/P's in the area.

telus purefiber vs shaw

Telus just finished installing their PureFriber service in my area now, so Im able to get FTTH. I believe its 150up/150down service. I am currently on Shaw Broadband 100. 100/5 connection. Im considering switching over to Telus mainly for the increased upload speeds (Dropbox, Youtube, etc). Is there anything I should be aware of when switching - e.g. is there something Shaw customers have found disconcerting after going from Shaw to Telus? I already know Telus blocks certain ports, which make running FTP server impossible. But anything else? Does Telus throttle torrent traffic?

Telus 100 - speed bump to 120

Hi all, fyi I noticed a speed bump up on Telus 100 (bonded copper). I'm now getting 120/30 with 8 ms latency. This is great because our area in Calgary has not been upgraded to fiber. I also heard from a friend Telus is looking at another bump up in the near future.

[BC] Fibre connectivity

I am going to have to replace my router soon and am wondering if the Telus termination point for fibre uses SFP. There's only a $20-$25 difference between a router without SFP and one with. I will not be subscribing to TV (happy with my OTA setup) so I don't need to worry about TV priorities.

Recent upgrade to Telus 150/150 - But speeds are nowhere close

Hey guys, New here, just trying to do some research into my problems. Let me start by saying I know almost nothing about routers and such haha. I'm at a beginner level. I recently upgraded my Telus internet service from the Telus 15 to the Telus 150/150. Being since I received an XBox 1 for Christmas, I thought it would be a good idea to have some excellent internet for online play. Telus came out and did the installation of the new upgraded router and got everything set up. Unfortunately, I'm finding the speeds are nowhere near the 150/150 that I'm supposed to be getting. In fact, at times the speed is slower than I had with Telus 15 (last speed test I did when is seemed to be slow was 5.39 mbps download and 1.55 mbps upload). Something is obviously wrong with my set up. I know using wifi can slow down the speeds, but I don't think it should be that much...Maybe the easiest fix would be to call up Telus and have them send a technician out, but I thought I'd ask around first to see if it might be an easy fix on my part. Thanks for any help!!

New building promo 1 year free offer upgrades

I just bought a new townhouse that has 1 year free of Telus 15 as a promo offer for new buildings with a note that "ask us about upgrade options." Does anyone know if I can get 150 by paying the difference between 15 and 150 and if so, who the right contact would be.

IPv4 / IPv6 Lease Time

Recently, I've noticed that the lease time has been reduced from 24 hours to 1 hour. I first noticed it because I've been testing some new pfsense features so I've been watching the WAN interface using wireshark. I checked and noticed my modem also has a 1 hour lease. I'm wondering if this has been implemented across the network and if others have noticed it. I'm also wondering why Telus would do this. With thousands of modems, processing 24X as many lease renewals must create a lot of overhead for the edge routers.

[ALL] For those who made the switch from Shaw to Telus, was it worth it?

I currently have a very bad saturation issue in my area with Shaw and the only fix is to switch ISPs. The saturation issue seems to pop up in my area every year and isn't fixed for months. I currently am paying for Shaw 150 but I only receive 90-95 down and my experience with lag (ping fluctuates a lot, here is a trace route: http://i.imgur.com/QvxsAXk.png) is horrible when playing online. "PureFibre" is available in my area and I'm willing to make the switch. I just want to be able to play online with my friends again and not have to worry about the internet issue anymore.

[AB] Getting passed CGN on Huawei B890 Telus Rural LTE

$

So I recently got the Rural LTE internet (I reside right outside a fiber community but with no plans from Telus to ever upgrade my line to get higher speeds than 3Mbps) and I was extremely disappointed in the fact that given the CGN Telus uses for LTE services, I was not able to Game, view my security cameras, and use certain applications on my PC. I've already tried calling there support line and trying to get a public address which failed, sadly (I'll be trying again through a different channel). Another option could be IPv6, however I get no connection if I set the B890 to IPv6 only, probably not support by there back end yet. So my final option would be either a reverse SSH tunnel or a VPN (I am able to set up a server for this at my work which does have fiber and a public IP) however I am not exactly sure if this would work. Anybody here have any idea as to how I can successfully get passed this CGN?

Does the ONT work as a switch? There's four ports on the device, are they all active or just one?

[BC] Recent Speed Test Results ???

I'm not complaining at all, but I am wondering if this is just an aberration or if others are having similar results? I'm in Kelowna and have their FTTH -- I am paying for (and checking my account on line confirms) 25/5 service. I'm the only one in the home using internet and don't need anymore speed than this. It's been my experience that I have always been "slightly" over provisioned -- typical speeds achievable are around 26 down and around 6.5 up. Today for no particular reason I ran a few speed tests. I ran tests with 3 different computers (all in different rooms) both wired and wireless, and using the speed test here at DSL Reports and also the Ookla testing using www.speedtest.net. I don't know when this might have started (nor how much longer it will last) but all day today I have been able to consistently achieve the accompanying results. Anybody else?

On my current laptop when wired in I am getting 168/168.Unplugged 26/40 on Wi Fi in my home.. When I get my new laptop it will run on Wi Fi. Is there an external extension via USB point that one can connect to fibre optics to get the correct speed .? Please excuse my extreme ignorance about not knowing this when I ordered my $85 per month fibre.

It seems some clueless fool has removed the ability to manage email accounts and aliases from the online account webpage. Why someone would make it so inconvenient is beyond belief. Quickly getting feed up with the BS of this service.

What speeds will Telus offer to compete with Shaws 2017 Internet?

With Shaw announcing they are going to the Comcast XI? platform what speeds can we expect Shaw to provide in 2017 and more importantly what speeds will Telus offer to Fiber uses to compete? Personally 500/500 would be the sweet spot, so that I can max out steam while not killing my connection or my ZFS send to my backup FreeNAS server (4TB of data and growing).

I just wanted to know if anyone is using IPV5050 STB in a wired configuration. I know it has a fast ethernet port but it is software dependent. I need to replace an old CIS330 and wanted to know if this would work. It does work as a wireless receiver but I want a wired one. Thanks

Hey, I tried igmp and firewall settings posted here from 2014. But those igmp settings don't work anymore. Anyone knows the new settings so I can plug in the telus iptv box to my pfsense router? If you use any other router I can also use the information so I can try them out.

Optik TV service- has anyone moved from bell sat to telus fibre tv

Hey all -- So we have fiber 150/150, and it's been great. no complaints at all. Our TV service has been with bell satellite for years and years and it's also been pretty good. We get a call at least once a month from telus trying to get us to make the switch to their TV service. I was curious to hear from folks who have made the switch from bell sat tv to telus fibre tv. We have 4k TV's, but realize there is only 2 4k channels on telus anyway. However, our bell service is 1080i. Does anyone know of most HD programming on bell is in 1080i or 1080p? I've been at a friends house and I did really like the interface on their 4k PVR box, and it seemed much "snappier" then our bell expressvu box. but really, i'm mostly concerned of the quality, is optik "cleaner" then bell satellite services (i find sometimes we see compression artifacts on bell) Any feedback would be awesome :) Thanks in advance!
