I think someone might be running DoS attacks on my network. I've been getting port scans and SYN floods and the attacks have originated from multiple IPs. None of these attacks have actually impacted my internet speed or ping, I'm just wondering why I have them in my logs. Is there a glitch where the VSG1432 gets false positives? Does anyone know if the IP is Telus related and maybe they are checking on what services I'm hosting, or is it an actual attack?

asus rt-n65u bridge help
Having a bitch of a time getting this to work.
Did a factory reset on my v1000h, disabled tr69, enabled transparent bridge mode.
Connected the router via the wan ports, changed the subnet. Can't seem to pull an IP.
Is there something I am missing or any settings I need to change on the router?
Any help is appreciated, the sooner the better thanks.
edit: oh snap was it as simple as I fucked up and shulda used a LAN port on the actiontech after bridging? Seems to work now

Actiontech V1000H 31.30L.57 Firmware Changes/ Root Lockout
Hey there,
It seems telus has ninja updated the 31.30L.57 firmware in the last week or so.
The 'root' login with '********' (edited, was the same pass as the .55 FW previously) as the password no longer functions. Same goes with 'tech' and '*******' (this password was consistent through a number of firmware versions).
I tried logging into my V1000H yesterday to adjust some of my custom QoS settings, and found myself unable to do so.
Any chance anyone has new information to pass on discreetly?
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Hello I had three telus tv boxes but have since moved outside the Telus TV service area.
Can someone take a quick snap of the power cords for these units as I have everything in a box and dont know the voltage or name of the unit.
I have since returned the units but failed to return the power units and I am sure telus will want them back.
I had two CIS330 units and one PRV unit.

[ALL] Worst Case Scenario $300 Dollars Later
I just still dont seem to fully understand how this works. I been getting internet from well I dont want to say exactly how many 3rd party providers but the results keep being the same.
People want nothing to do with me. I dont know if there scared of the house or me or whats going on but it seems I've scared all the big boys away.
What have I done that warrants my internet being shut off every time I getted hooked up?
I dont download anything illegal but I do use torrents allot. Theres nothing illegal about torrents but sure they saturate the line a bit a guess but I try to be reasonable from 2am to 8am type of thing.
But they keep sending differnt people out to check the " Demarc_ location box " ? This cost 100 dollars every time this happens and they never seem to find anything wrong.
The lines have been getting better and better in the area up until today and SLAM! nearly all my upstream is gone and there it is showing me exactly how this is happening on my router.
The same pop up box. No internet just this warning I need to get past a screen to get internet.
I typing this out from my neighbour which is on the VDSL which is still not available here. People are going crazy on the other end of that is seems so I dont need the high speeds I just want basic cable and internet not the fast VDSL thats too much money.
Any way I was wondering how do you get on the plan for the new cable packages?
I still dont know enough other than I been pretty much either spied on or harrased by everyone and there dog every time I get internet. I guess they just cant resist for some reason. I dont know what this internet is all about anyway it seems over rated.

TELUS Upload Speeds
I don't understand why both Shaw and Telus (infact, Canada in general) have great download speeds, but horrible upload speeds.
When you purchase TELUS Internet '15', then shouldn't you receive 15mbps download and upload?
Canada is ranked 67th worldwide based on the average upload speed, which is a measly 3.53mbps at the time of writing, whereas Andorra and Hong Kong top the charts by having an average upload speed of 32mbps.
Infact, Bell Fibe, which is a similar fiber optic provider offers some amazing upload speeds on their plans. I agree with Google Fiber's policy of offering 1gbps download and upload.
So does Telus plan on increasing the upload speeds on its existing plans, considering all the rate increases and stricter data usage restrictions that been introduced recently?

Telus Profiles, Error Correction, and Latency
Hello, based on discussion and posts in other threads, I'm trying to consolidate some of this information as well as hopefully solve my own issues.
I have Telus Internet 50/10 VDSL2+ on the 17a profile and the connection is quite stable. Non loop bonded.
I play League of Legends a lot and I constantly ping between 90-110 ms. With league, a ping of 100 ms is actually a big deal when playing against guys with 10-20 ping. Call me crazy but I believe this could/should be down around the 50ms mark. I tried speaking with the technical support folks but it was clearly above the tech's head. Went in circles with 'its the gaming site'. Yes, the routing/server of course matters. I think its safe to say everyone knows this. When I brought up that indeed routing/host of course is a main determinant, that I was looking to get my best shot from the Telus end of things, whether adjusting a profile or error correction, the response given was 'its all about the gaming site'. At this point I politely thanked them for their time and am now here.
I've seen various ping tests to various different locations in North America by others with Telus and they seem to achieve markedly better pings to most everywhere than my connection does. (I am located in Edmonton, it is worth noting they were not)
There has been talk that there are a few different profiles or settings or error correction which can be applied/changed to achieve a better latency. Going into technical explanation of PhyR and such, while very informative and information people who provide help here should know, does not exactly further the point of this thread. Looking for specifics with Telus.
Does anyone have information on this as it pertains directly to Telus, and how I/anyone can go about getting these changes?
Appreciate any assistance with this matter. If anyone comes here to brag about their Shaw ping or how something else is much better, save it.
edit: In regards to interleaving, is it tweakable, if it is, pros/cons to on/off?

Someone from Telus please clear my confusion!
Hi all,
First off, I have just moved to calgary from toronto and I do not know much about the free package that Tele companies provided with 1 years lease on the property. We do have something like this in toronto but not the place where I use to live.
As for now, I am taking over someone lease and the 1 year free package wont be inherit on my name so therefore I have to sign up with telus month to month until I sign a new lease.
Will my new internet be transferable to the 1 year free package and pay the partial or I have to pay full amount?
Thanks for anyone and whom ever from telus explain this to me.

I've searched and read all over this forum and come to the conclusion that I should ask nicely for the installer to do the followings:
** I just called tech support and was told I would be on VDSL2
1) Get Alcatel Cellpipe 7130 if possible
2) Request the installer to install the VDSL modem and switch prior to the all in one modem **like the pix attached
3) If Alcatel Cellpipe 7130 is not available, and I DO NOT want wireless or I want wireless turn off, what are my options?
Please advice, thanks.

[Mobility] TELUS offers Canadians clear & simple two-year wirele

Every plan requires 2 year contract. High-end phone requires $55 plan, mid-range phone (iFone 4, HTC 1V, Ace 2X) requires $45 plan, BYOD $35 (or prepaid).
Right now high-end is 3yr @ $50, mid-range is 2yr @ $40/50 (anyone know?). In the US, everything is 2yr @ $40.

TELUS Hosted Email Improvements
So the last 6 months or so for customers who use TELUS email have been fairly painful, due to timeouts to the server, or webmail just not letting you log in.
Starting Monday, TELUS is rolling out its new email platform.
Initially, 7,000 customers will be migrated to the new platform, with the intention that the rest of the userbase will be brought over by the end of June/July.
Main features
- more stability and uptime
- 5.0GiB (yes 5 gigabytes) of storage space per mailbox (this honestly impressed me, I thought 1 or 2 would be what we'd be rolling out)
- newer/cleaner interface via webmail
- for those who use IMAP, you should reselect your folders (Sent is now default, not sent-mail, for example)
Now the initial question that is going to be asked by a lot of webmail users when they get migrated over.
Q - how do I view my storage usage?
A - at the top right, your name will be displayed. Hover your mouse over it and a popup will show you.
I personally don't use TELUS email but I know this will be a relief for a lot of you. Hopefully it doesn't die on day 1 or anyday after.

[ALL] Canada Still Among Ten Most Expensive Countries re Broadba
OECD Report:
Canada Still Among Ten Most Expensive Countries for Broadband Internet Services
per: Dr. Michael Geist ... a law professor at the University of Ottawa where he holds the Canada Research Chair in Internet and E-commerce Law.
http://www.michaelgeist.ca/content/view/6907/125/
Tuesday July 16, 2013
Yesterday I blogged twice about the 2013 OECD Communications Outlook, a major international report issued once every two years with detailed comparative data on telecommunications throughout the developed economy world. My first post noted that Canada's wireless performance ranks poorly, as it is among the most ten most expensive countries within the OECD in virtually every category and among the three most expensive countries for several standard data only plans. After Telus responded to my post, I followed up with a second post that examined some of the Telus-specific data used by the OECD. Those measures ranked Canada as the 2nd most expensive of 7 countries for 1 GB of wireless data (at speeds Telus customers are likely to receive) and the second most expensive of 19 countries for 500 MB of wireless data for tablets (again at speeds Telus customers are likely to receive).
The OECD report also includes comparative data on broadband services with Canada ranked among the ten most expensive countries in virtually every tier (note that the OECD measures the cost by purchasing power parity so that differences in income are factored into the analysis). For example, for plans offering 54 GB of data per month at speeds of 45 Mbit/second, Canada ranks as the 9th most expensive in the OECD. Move down a notch to 42 GB of data per month at 30 Mbit/second and Canada is the 8th most expensive country in the OECD. At slower speeds, Canada remains expensive - 33 GB of data per month at 15 Mbit/second is the 11th most expensive and for 18 GB of data per month at 2.5 Mbit/second it is the 9th most expensive.
Wireless broadband services fare even worse on a comparative basis. As noted yesterday, Canada is the third most expensive country for a monthly wireless broadband subscription of 500 MB or 1 GB per month. Moreover, the wireless broadband services for tablets fares poorly as well with Telus' offering ranking as the second most expensive service among 19 countries offering comparable speeds.
The report also includes an interesting chart (Table 7.29) that tracks changes in broadband over the past seven years by following a single service plan from each country starting in 2005 and recording how it changes over time. The Canadian example was a Bell service that shows speed, cost, and bit cap increasing during the 8 year period. In 2005, the service was 5120 kbit/s for $50.00 per month with no bit cap. Bit caps were introduced to the plan in 2007. By 2012, the speed has increased to 15360 kbit/s and price had increased modestly to $52.17. While that may not sound unusual from a Canadian perspective, the majority of OECD countries (though not all) have experienced speed increases with price decreases. These include the following (speeds plus local currency cost):
Country...........2005 Plan.......................Same Plan in 2012
Australia..........1536 kbit/s for 129.40........20480 kbit/s for 61.90
Austria..............2048 kbit/s for 54.90.........8192 kbit/s for 18.38
Belgium.............4096 kbit/s for 54.95.........30720 kbit/s for 34.86
Czech Republic...1024 kbit/s for 3568..........20480 kbit/s for 700
Denmark............4096 kbit/s for 499...........20480 kbit/s for 260.06
Finland.............24000 kbit/s for 68.9.........24576 kbit/s for 33.2
France.............18432 kbit/s for 39.90........20480 kbit/s for 36.90
Greece..............1024 kbit/s for 32.90.........2048 kbit/s for 32.31
Hungary.............2048 kbit/s for 22188.........15360 kbit/s for 4880
Japan..............102400 kbit/s for 4064........204800 kbit/s for 3873
Luxembourg......3072 kbit/s for 90.50.........20480 kbit/s for 79.00
Mexico.............1024 kbit/s for 599.00........3072 kbit/s for 389.00
Netherlands ......8192 kbit/s for 74.95.........81920 kbit/s for 44.17
Norway.............4096 kbit/s for 549...........16384 kbit/s for 478
Poland..............6144 kbit/s for 291.58........10240 kbit/s for 107.46
Portugal............8192 kbit/s for 59.99.........24576 kbit/s for 25.49
Slovak Republic..1024 kbit/s for 52.74.........5120 kbit/s for 13.77
Switzerland.......2400 kbit/s for 99.00.........10000 kbit/s for 74.35
While some countries have had both speed and price increases (Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Spain, UK) or no change in speed (US, Korea), 18 of the 30 countries tracked since 2005 have experienced price and speed move in the opposite direction. The chart is anecdotal and does not account for inflation, but it highlights how the growth of broadband services in many countries have led to better speeds and lower pricing. Canada has unquestionably experienced the faster speeds, but OECD data indicates that we remain comparatively a high-cost country for broadband Internet services.

[ALL] Telus: Canada Should Be the Most Expensive Wireless Countr

Telus: Canada Should Be the Most Expensive Wireless Country in the OECD
Monday July 15, 2013
"Telus has responded to my post on the 2013 OECD Communications Outlook, which ranked Canada among the most expensive countries in the OECD for wireless services in virtually every category, with its own post claiming that Canadians should be celebrating our relatively high prices. The post notes the investment that Telus and other companies have made in Canada (Peter Nowak explains the reason behind much of that investment) and argues that:
When you consider our enormous investment, challenging geography, sparse population and outstanding networks Canada really SHOULD be the most expensive country for wireless service in the OECD, but were not. Thats a great success story we should be celebrating.
It is a testament to how out-of-touch Canada's incumbent wireless providers have become that they think Canadians should be celebrating the fact that we are not the single most expensive wireless country in the developed economy world. Telus says that scratching below the surface of the OECD report will lead people to conclude that Canadians pay about the same as other developed countries. Yet in its own chart, Canada ranks among the more expensive countries within the G7 in every category but one.
Interestingly, days after Telus promoted the OECD report with a press release and quotes from CEO Darren Entwistle claiming that Canadians "pay about the same prices as people in much more densely populated countries", it now says the OECD methodology is "limited." The OECD data relies on sample plans from Telus, Bell, and Rogers for its analysis. Telus also adds that pricing alone does not tell the whole story, noting that different prices may reflect different speeds.
To address their concerns about methodology and suggestions that rank do not tell the whole story, below are two of the key baskets from the OECD pricing comparisons that used Telus costs. Moreover, I have eliminated any country that does not match the Telus speed according to the OECD data. In other words, this is the OECD comparison of Telus pricing against providers in other countries offering comparable speeds. First, a 1 GB data plan with speeds of 40 Mbit/s or more:"
For the rankings, go to http://www.michaelgeist.ca/content/view/6906/125/
"This is the data provided by the OECD using Telus as representative of Canadian pricing: the 2nd most expensive of 7 countries for 1 GB of wireless data (at speeds Telus customers are likely to receive) and the second most expensive of 19 countries for 500 MB of wireless data for tablets (again at speeds Telus customers are likely to receive). Telus apparently believes the fact that we rank 18th out of 19th countries in this OECD sample is a great success story. Based on recent comments, it does not appear the government shares that view."
