[BC] Summerland, BC - Internet speed half or less normal

Last Saturday my Internet speed suddenly dropped dramatically. Speed Test results: http://speedtest.net/result/2752914364.png Telus says my Zyxel modem is at fault and they are sending a tech with a new one. Can a modem do that? Some friends are reporting similar speed problems. There is a rumor going around that Telus is laying fiber optics cable and has the dsl interrupted but the Telus help line knows nothing about it. Does anyone here know?

[BC] Turning on Telus TV kills Airport Extreme WiFi (bridge mode

Hi there I have an odd, and very repeatable problem. I wondered why my wireless (on Airport Extreme) died throughout the house every night around 5pm. Turns out I have a set recording at that time on my PVR. Further research showed even just watching TV killed the wireless. My setup is: V1000H-------------- | | | AppleTV STB/PVR AE---Mac (media host) THe Mac is connected (wired) to an Airport Extreme LAN port Things are pretty well factory stock settings, except: - The Airport Extreme (AE) is in bridged mode, with WiFi set up - WiFi is turned off on the ActionTec V1000H DSL GW (although that makes no difference) If I use bridged mode on the AE, it works fine if the STB is inactive, but even watching one HD channel kills the WiFi. When I try speediest.net either get no response or ping test >1 second, with downstream bitrates in the .01MB range (trickle). If I change from bridged mode to DHCP/NAT on the AE (essentially double NAT since the V1000H runs NAT) my WiFi runs perfectly, even with the PVR pulling down 3 HD streams. I get just under 15M down, 1M up. So you say, great! Just use NAT on the AE. Problem is, all my iDevices are on the WiFi, and if the AppleTV is on a different network from them none of the AirPlay/AirTunes stuff works. Bonjour won't cross network boundaries. (And the AppleTV is across the house from the AE/Mac, I can't wire them directly without going through V1000H) My guess: the multicast traffic on the network for the STB is blowing up my AE router? I've heard Apple Airport routers don't handle multicast well. But what can I do to fix this? Appreciate any of the expert advice out there!

There is a new beta that will be release for the STB that will enable the guide by "Subscribed channel". If the test goes well, we should expect this feature to be release sometime this year. -- I may work for, but do not necessarily represent the views and beliefs of TELUS Communications.

[AB] Telus 50 and gaming

Hey guys, I was just wondering if someone had a few suggestions on how to configure my router to be optimal for online gaming. I just moved into a new place so I picked up the broadband 50 package from telus. I just got it installed yesterday and unfortunately the service is less than stellar. To compare, my old place had a very basic shaw package, including no more than 10 dl/1 ul speeds, and I was able to play games with around 40-70 ping, have a twitch.tv stream in the background, and speak to my friends on ventrilo with no issues. With the telus internet however, i get a steady 115 ping in game, and when I open a browser it skyrockets then settles down to an inconsistent 170-500+ ping. I'm not a techie but I'd appreciate any suggestions someone in a similar boat might have. Thanks!

Anyone using ipv6?

Since it doesn't appear that Telus will be doing anything about ipv6 any time soon, I decided to set up a tunnel from hurricane electric. I disabled isatap and teredo on the windows 7 pcs and I set up google a/b and hurricane electric as the dns resolvers. I have a /64 and my router is allocating ipv6 addresses to all of my pcs. It's working well. My pcs pass the ipv6 test 10/10 and they favour ipv6 when it's available. I can monitor the amount of traffic going through the tunnel and there is a fair amount. It was quite easy to get it working and it's been very reliable. I wonder why Telus is being so tardy to implement ipv6, considering that other IPSs in the USA and Teksavvy here are doing it.

[AB] Optik vs Satellite

Hi, can anyone tell me about their experiance with Telus Satellite vs Optik? I am thinking of going with satellite on Telus, since I do get a bundling discount with my cell phone, which I wont get with Bell ExpressVu. (I gather that Telus resells bell expressvu, I will just get an extra discount for my phone) What was your experiance with Telus (sat vs optik) ? Any pitfalls? How is the customer service, and the quality of the channels? Any information is appreciated. -- Bell Canada: It is “Preposterous" that consumers should get content they want on their cellphones.

Not sure how I lucked into it, but TELUS upgraded me to their new email service, and it is pretty nice. The webmail is lightning fast, but there are a lot of features to learn. They gave me 5 GB of storage for free. They also told me how to set up my Apple and Android devices to access the server from anywhere. I want to get an account for my girlfriend, but she is on Shaw.

I just came across Shaw Friends - a loyalty program for Shaw customers who have bundled their services. The rewards seem to be quite awesome (including additional data, free nba league passes, 1 free on demand rental, and other discounts and benefits). Does TELUS offer such a program?

[att=1] Which one is better? I like the 7130 because it is smaller and has less un-needed options like wireless that I don't need. Is there a latest firmware for the 7130? I have it hooked up now and it seems snappier. Whats the scoop on this rare modem? thanks

[BC] Telus is crap

First off, low ping time does not mean quality connection! With Telus, do a Trace route to most IP addresses and you will see your connection is crap. Speed test with a test site other than speedtest.net and they will say it is not accurate, only speedtest.net. Do a test on telus own test site and you will get results far off speedtest.net results. I have never seen latency reults like what Telus customers get. I am a dissatisfied customer.

Duplicate Emails

I checked my email this AM and collected a few messages. When I checked my email this PM, I got a message that the account was inactive. Upon checking further, it appears that Telus moved our account to a different server. Correcting the IP address in the HOSTS file corrected that problem, but I then got a whole whack of duplicated emails. Upon checking further, I found that the POP server was using a different Message-ID to keep track of the messages. The old server used an ID like "[1372943813.11106@paypal.com]", where the same message on the new server uses an ID like "275.E4P8Xi77gXceQf3SjgrQMN6q1MClBaLUkc++lF,1rGA=". Someone can tell me if I am wrong, but it looks like Telus is using new software. Any idea what it is?

Duplicate Items in TELUS Email

Hey guys, I recently got the upgrade to the new TELUS email, and I must say, it's awesome! The website is fast, responsive, and has a very clean look and feel to it. I just noticed one thing, that Junk, Sent and Trash folders are duplicated multiple times in the email navigation. Is there any fix to this? Here's a screenshot: [att=1]

[ON] Telus vs Rogers (Cell Service) North End, LONDON, ONTARIO

I live in the north end (Fanshawe and Highbury)of London using Telus and my reception is god awful. Barely any service within my home, outside seems to be just as bad or worse. Cuts out depending on where I stand in my yard. Is there anyone around here in the same area that uses Rogers and how is your signal? I've used Rogers previously when I lived in the Cherryhill Area, in a cement apartment complex and my service was fine. I switched carriers while in that building (Telus worked fine there as well) but then moved to the north end and it's been problems ever since. Any info? If Rogers works well up here, I'll be switching.. and fast. Thanks.
