Log into your Telus account to see your usage. Click on the Internet section and then upper right of the details frame will have a link to click. Compare it to your own routers data chart and see how they compare. My previous bill was missing a few days, as usual.

[AB] Dammit, I really don't want to...

My area is oversold like a SOB, and although Telus made concessions on my bill, my connection just keeps getting worse. This afternoon, the BEST my download speed (and it was from a legitimate, solid source) was about 3mbps. Then, things got interesting. Youtube vids were buffering at lowest res. Tonight, I remember the old basic dsl service, I think it was 512? and wish I had that. I know Telus has lots on their plate, but DAMN!

[Mobility] Telus pricing is a joke

Telus bough Public Mobile and now they are FORCING ex Public Mobile customers to buy new hardware AND to move to $5-$10 more expensive plans! And this AFTER removing teh unlimited data plan and replacing it with 1GB plan More, (I can say this a theft) they put the price of the Motorola G for PM customers with a price of $250 while for Koodo and Telus is $200 !!! Only to APPEAR that they offer a decent discount for existing customers, as the phone is priced for existing customers at $169! Why not price the phone at $999 and then offer a $830 DISCOUNT!!!??? This is not normal and it only shown that each time the Big 3 touch something they distroy it!!! Shame on you Telus! You claim everywhere you are better than Bell and Rogers. YOU ARE NOT! Maybe even worst!

[BC] Telus email monthly fees?

$

I was told years ago that I could "park" my email address (e.g going for 10 mths extended holidays) or even if I disconnect my internet service during that period, I could still "keep" my email address by paying a month fees, is this still true? and how much is the monthly fees per email A/C? I couldn't find the stand alone email monthly fees on Telus' web site, and always on hold on customer service:-(.....

I'm in BC and on the 50/10 plan and even though speed tests are okay the overall connection is just terrible. Cannot play any online FP shooter games the connection is just too erratic, too many drop-outs and high pings, we used to be able to, but not anymore. Plus the fact the Actiontec v1000h router is just crap and Telus disables almost all the router options, why??? who knows. The only other option in Vancouver is Shaw or Bell, but reading the reviews it looks like they too are just crap. Also, our download real time actual speed (capacity) never goes past 5.5-6 Mbps total. If I am downloading 2 files and getting close to 5.5 Mbps download speed and someone else in the house starts downloading something my speed will drop and our speed together will average out to around 6 Mbps. When we were on the 25 speed package we could never get past 1.5 Mbps actual download speed. There is something wrong. One more rant ... Our wireless is freakin pathetic. If we restart the router it will increase to around 15 Mbps , but an hour or so later it will be down around 3 Mbps or lower, sitting right beside the router makes no difference. Can Telus change their ways and allow customers to use their own router.

Upload speed on 3mbit plan

I have been at someone's house where the internet was just molasses slow. I did a couple of speed tests that indicated their ping was high (anywhere from 60-100ms) and the upload was abysmal (the tests indicated 0.08-0.11 mbit.) The download speed seemed to be OK. Now, when I was on the 3mbit plan some years ago, the upload was 640kbit or so, which is like six times faster then her tested speeds. Sending email can take a while if there's any sort of attachment as it's not really much better than dialup. They're rural and the internet has only been slow for a couple of months now, so this isn't something that was from the get-go (they've had Telus DSL for years now.) So they called in while I was there and explained the problem, the tech told me that yes it's low but she also had an ancient modem - they sent out a new one. New modem - pings are much better, around 40ms consistently. Upload? Varies between 0.11mbit and 0.25 mbit on tests. So they called in again and the tech is now saying that that 300kbps up is normal for the plan she's on, which I think is BS. It sounds like Telus doesn't want to fix the problem. What's the upload speed supposed to be on the older plans, I know mine was ~600kbps before I upgraded to 25mbit.

[AB] Port Blocking Work Around?

$

I am having problems with Origin games connecting to servers. After talking to the tech(From Origin) it turns out the blocked 443 port is causing massive issues. Now I'm pretty sure that port 443 is blocked from Telus's side not the modem directly. Is there a way to somehow get around the blocked port? Short of paying for a server account from Telus for a static IP. Any help would be appreciated.

Switching to Telus, questions about contract terms

$

Comments posted here have raised some questions in my mind about whether I can use Telus at all, particularly as to whether I can have the Telus-supplied modem+router bridged so that it functions as a simple modem. I also need to make sure that I can get 2 IP addresses, and that none of the ports I need are blocked, although I don't think either of those will be a problem. I'm not sure I can get reliable answers from Telus without actually trying it, so my question is, if I sign up for a contract with Telus, can I cancel the contract if it turns out that the answers I have received are not correct and the service won't meet my needs? Is there something like a 1-week trial period? Also, I see that Telus is offering a $100 credit if I let them cancel my service with Shaw instead of doing it myself. What's the reason for that? Is it a timing thing so they can push the switchover through quickly before people have a chance to change their mind, or maybe just that they don't want potential switching customers to have a chance to talk to the Shaw retentions dept.?

[BC] At TELUS, we're all frogs boiling in water

$

. Yesterday I received my e.bill notification from TELUS. 'Subject: Your monthly TELUS e.Bill is ready' Beside the email message was a graphic of a frog squatting on top of a TELUS bill. _____ ' If you place a frog in boiling water, it will jump right back out. But if you put the frog in cold water and heat it gradually, it will sit there and slowly roast alive.' (from Wikipedia) 'The premise is that if a frog is placed in boiling water, it will jump out, but if it is placed in cold water that is slowly heated, it will not perceive the danger and will be cooked to death.' 'The story is often used as a metaphor for the inability or unwillingness of people to react to significant changes that occur gradually.' _____ I started the thread below on December 3rd 2012 'TELUS High Speed Turbo 25 Usage being reduced 50%' http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r27784992-BC-TELUS-High-Speed-Turbo-25-Usage-being-reduced-50- (the 50% usage reduction came into effect on Feb. 1, 2013) _____ The Huffington Post picked up on the thread two days later. 'Telus Download Limits Reduced, Upsetting Home Internet Service Customers' http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2012/12/05/telus-download-limits-reduced_n_2245422.html TELUS had to respond. 'Telus senior communications manager Shawn Hall told The Huffington Post the changes are being put in place "to better manage internet investment," and added the company’s bandwidth caps are high enough that even the heaviest bandwidth users "have more than enough."' 'Hall said that, unlike some other internet providers, Telus doesn’t actually charge customers overage fees for exceeding their caps. Users who exceed their caps are encouraged to switch to a higher service plan.' My question to TELUS at the time was if they don't "charge customers overage fees for exceeding their caps", then why take a big PR hit by reducing the cap by 50%. We now have our answer. Usage based billing starts on June 1, 2014, just 16 short months after the 50% reduction in usage. Put the frog in cold water and heat it gradually, it will sit there and slowly roast alive.

Free Telus Wifi Question

$

ok, so a while ago my mom told me that telus came into there store and asked if they could install free wifi there, they said sure because they had nothing to loose. when i initially heard about it it seemed to me like telus was trying to do something similar to compete with shaw gowifi untill today she did not tell me that she could not connect to the wifi, but she seemed positive that telus had installed the wifi so that they could use it aswell as whatever it purpose was. i could be incorrect about this, but juding by what they left it seems like they tried to leave some sort of password. however it was very confusing. today when i picked my mom up from work i decided to take 5-10 minutes to look at what telus had installed. the only thing i am not sure/was confused about, was what kind of a connection they had before they had the telus wifi, because they need internet for there debit machine i believe and i dont know how they had that connected before but my mom seemed to thing it was going through the telus internet, and the wiring suggested so aswell. ok what i saw was a zyxel vsg-1432 with no antenna so im assuming wifi was disabled then there was a POE injector, and a AP on the roof of the closet room on the AP there was 2 things on a sticker, mac adress and something else, both of those things on the sticker on the AP had also been writtin on some labeling attached to the zyxel. this is where it got confusing. there was 3 telus network that either of the devices could have been. 1.Telus# (open network but captive portal so it takes you to a telus login page) 2.TelusDirect#(network has username and password, but its not open, when i try to connect it asks for username and password, very odd) or something like that, i will get my mom to do a screenshot on here phone tmrw to show. and the third network was TELUSXXXX like a normal default telus home router/modem. the TELUSXXXX network, did not match the number on the zyxel, and when i tried the password it did not work. V1000H with 31.121L.12 firmware - USB now accessible?

So, I logged into my Actiontec after a LONG time of not ever going into it (it has just been working...), and noticed the firmware had been updated. Going into "Advanced Setup" now gives a warning "You are entering the advanced configuration for your gateway. Changes could impact your service" with a button to continue. Neat, don't remember this. All the typical settings...but there's one named "Storage Service", apparently for USB keys to be plugged into the back of the V1000H. So for giggles, plugged a 32GB one in...and it was discovered... Volumename FileSystem Total Space Used Space usb1_1 ntfs 30664 21528 Neat! Now, can I mount this? Windows explorer, map network drive, enter \\192.168.1.254 into the box, and clicked browse. Yup, it's there as usb1_1. And I can mount it, delete from the usb, and write to it. So, when did they add this functionality? Or has it always been there and I've just never seen it? I thought they had it locked completely down.

Does this sound right (Telus landline install)

A client of mine, has built a new building in a new subdivision (he owns the land that he developed). According to what he told me, Telus told him that he would have to bury a pipe in the ground with a pulling wire, and they would hook him up. (He also has the building wired, ready to go). So we're talking about making a couple of connections from what I can see. What I am dumbfounded by is he was told, to hook him up, after he's done all the work, would be $12,400. Needless to say, he's going with a WISP. But, am I missing something in that I'm seeing this is a boatload of money for not doing much at all?
