I've been with Telus since 2002, moving about over the years in the Edmonton area. One thing I always noticed, especially for online gaming, was to stay away from west coast servers, including Vancouver, because of the 100+ ping.
Seems that has changed as the pings have become much much better. Not sure when this change occured for I only first noticed it last week. Anybody know what they did to improve this? Some fibre get laid through the Rocky Mountains? Some proper routing of the signal?
Thanks for any info.

[BC] Using ZYXEL VSG1432 as a Wireless Bridge
Hi there,
I have both an Actiontec and a Zyxel modem.
The Actiontec modem is the only one with internet access. The Zyxel is currently not being used.
Is there a way to turn the Zyxel into a wireless bridge modem? I would like to extend my WiFi to a room that has poor signal connecting to the Actiontec, and if it's possible to do it without purchasing another router, it would be ideal.
Thank you.

RT-N16 too slow to watch TV
I recently bridged my v1000h to use my RT-N16 and it seems slow to switch channels. It takes at least 5 seconds to switch and view. Also it doesn't support the preview in the guide.
I enabled all the IGMP settings I could find, any specific settings I need to use?

Can't access IP from Telus
I'm trying to access http://83.125.22.169 (a shared web hosting server)
But it seems blocked. Is it blocked by Telus? How can I access it from my Telus account (in BC)?
Traceroute only goes 2 hops before it dies:

Couple questions:
I notice my telus dns default # have flipped there order last day or so...(I'm in B.C. lower mainland)...now 75.153.176.1,,,,75.153.176.9....I thought the one ending in .1 was alberta main one but now showing as my first dns #
Also Im using a telus Zyxel vsg1432 modem...to change dns # (say to use google's) do I change under "Network Settings/Home Networking/Dynamic to Static??? I did try this and yet notice on main modem Home page it still shows WAN DNS Server 1: 75.153.176.1 and WAN Default Gateway: 154.5.48.254.....should it not show the dns server numbers I replaced with???

[AB] Speed slowdowns/ need tech
I live in Edmonton and recently my internet has been slowing down every couple hours on both hard-lined computer and wireless, to the point where i cannot watch a stream and ping is too high to play anything. Restarting the modem seems to fix it for a bit, but always comes back. Basically, i need to get a tech out here to look try and find the problem. I can't make heads or tails of the telus website, how can i get a tech to come out?

Telus 50 slow downloads
Hi all i have had telus 50 for about 3 years now. The speeds are really slow most i ever got was 25mbps. I called telus and they told me that it might be that my pc is old (new built) and they just do nothing about it. Really thinking of going to shaw as telus does not seem to care as i requested a tech to come out, he comes does a speed test does not get any more than 25mbps and tells me all is well (i dont know much about speeds and all) i have a actiontec v1000h and on second floor of house signal strenght is 30%.
latest speed test done from a hardline (not wifi) [att=1]
Any advice is welcome
Thank you

GPON
I would like to know if TELUS has rolled out GPON fibre in my area - South East Marine Drive (Riverwalk ave). If it is yes, whats the process to get this upgrade? How much does it cost for me? If it is not being done, whats the plan? when do we get fibre upgrade in our community? What are the changes that I should expect other than the upgrade?

OPTIK TV igmp proxy settings (IP ranges)
Hello Everyone,
I just began service with telus and at first was looking into bridging the actiontec they provide, but then discovered I did not need it at all. I've setup my pfsense router to act as an IGMP proxy with ip range settings from these forums and my TV is working just fine. I would like to double check my configuration with the community.
IGMP Upstream: 207.0.0.0/8, 224.0.0.0/4, 10.0.0.0/8
IGMP Upstream: 192.168.1.0/24 (and my other VLANS) 192.168.7.0/24 etc etc.
Are all of these ranges required?
Also, I had to allow UDP taffic from 224.0.0.0/4 through the firewall (WAN) explicitly. Is this correct? I would like to narrow down exactly which IP ranges are necessary. Thank you!

V1000H HPNA Setup
I cannot seem to find *any* guide on how to setup HPNA and I would greatly appreciate some help from the gurus here.
I have two V1000H's. The first is my main unit connected to Telus VDSL 50. It's now running the Actiontec NCS 31.30L.34 firmware, replacing the Telus one. I did this for easy access to the DNS server settings to I can use Unblock US with ease.
The second unit is running Telus's firmware 31.30L.57, which was hardware reset so the 31.30L.55's root credentials still work. I would have liked to have switched this to the NCS as well, however the "illegal image" error greets me when I try.
From what I understand, HPNA works like an ethernet bridge. I would like to be able to have the second unit in another room, connected via coxial (direct, not through the cable jacks) and have this unit function as a bridge with the main unit still doing the DHCP assigning. Is this possible, or am I way off base?
Additionally, could it be used as another wireless access point?
Much obliged for any information. :)

Bonded VDSL2 Modem/Router replacement for Telus
Hi guys,
I'm currently looking into finding root access to my Actiontec V2000H (31.122L.11) but in the meantime I'm also researching replacement devices. What do I need to look for in a device to ensure it works with Telus? I've found the following:
http://www.zhone.com/products/6728-W1/
http://www.pace.com/americas/products/gateways/vdsl/5168nv/#
http://www.zyxel.com/us/en/products_services/p873hnup.shtml?t=p
http://innoband.com/products/6000b1.php
http://www.comtrend.com/cgi-bin/na/db-searchn.cgi?template=proview2.htm&dbname=product&key2=72&action=searchdbdisplay
I read somewhere that the comtrend and innoband make good devices. ON a similar note couldn't I just buy another Actiontec V2000H and have my way with it since the passwords would be known I assume?
Thanks in advance!

ZyXEL VSG-1432 lose ethernet connection after reboot or sleep.
I never had this problem with my old dlink modem and telus...only now since I got the ZyXEL VSG-1432 modem (which I need for telus 25)
If I'm hardwired into modem with ethernet cable and I wake from sleep or reboot I lose connection to internet...and only way to get connection back is by either unplugging and replugging ethernet cable,or by rebooting modem....this does not happen if I'm using wifi (only when using ethernet cable)...also this happens no matter the operating system (win, mac, linux, chrome os)
Any ideas? I'm guessing I need to set something within the modem settings...

Looks like Telus turned my speed DOWN
So, recently someone pointed out to me that the 25Mbps plan is supposed to have 5Mbps uploads, which I have never been able to even come close to. I don't know if it was 5 when I signed up, but I could get a consistent 3, so I wasn't too worried about it.
Then, within the last week or 2, I've noticed my downloads have been rather slow, so I decided to check my modem status.
Looks like I'm only syncing at 20 Mbps, and 3 up. The error rates seems rather high, but I don't know what reasonable values are, and I had a tech out an extra time when I signed up, as it was suggested by some people in the know around here there might've been a bridge tap on my line. The tech came, and said there wasn't. So from the logs, what's up? I'm just paying the same for even less than I was getting before, which also isn't what I was supposed to be getting?
I know from the past that because I'm in bridge mode, talking to tech support is essentially useless, and both techs I dealt with when I signed up and the second one that came both seemed a bit clueless, hence why it's usually better to just post here and not waste my time on the phone.

[BC] Add 2nd Dynamic IP from Telus
How is the 2nd Dyanamic IP from Telus being given out? Is this still an option with the optik 50/10 service? The Telus "registeryourdevice" site is no longer available, and the WAN port only gives IP's in the current DHCP scope. Effectively giving you 5 ports on the V2000h. My goal is to pull that 2nd IP and apply it to a PFSENSE box behind the Actiontech. I am currently running the latest firmware with 3 optik boxes attached directly to the Actiontech.

Actiontec V2000h Bridge Mode
Hello!
This is my first time posting here, so hi folks!
So. I have the Telus 50/10 service running an Actiontec V2000h. My boss gave me a Fortigate 60B (enterprise router) to use at home so I can learn how to configure it for various scenarios. What I need to do is put the Actiontec into transparent bridge mode. You used to be able to log in using the root password, however in one of the recent firmware updates you can no longer get access to that part of the gateway.
Does anyone know what I can do to get this V2000h into bridge mode so my interwebs isn't going through a double NAT?
And I understand if I have to keep this quiet so Telus doesn't lock anymore crap down on these things. PM's are welcome :)
Thanks!
