Hi everyone, don't know if anyone tried this before. but I ordered CIKTEL's ADSL2 service.
received a modem from them, plugged into the phone line, ADSL light on the modem is solid green, but when i dial pppoe, i always receive a timeout. if I use bridge mode, there's a 10kbps connection from telus.
CIKTEL's tech support seems only know how to read scripts and have no idea what's really going on.
Can anyone please help?

Factory Reset of ActionTEC V1000H not working
Trying to reset router to an earlier version so I can log in and enable bridging to connect up my Asus router. I tried following the steps suggested to reset the V1000H including removing all of the input cables, holding down reset switch until power light goes red (did this a 3rd time and had the switch held down for 30s), and then powering off and on the router.
All that happened was the admin password needed to be changed, and it kept coming back with the TELUS 31.30L.57 firmware.
I noticed on the actionnet label that it had an earlier firmware version listed (.48) so I was hoping this would work.
Any suggestions?

Going from 25 to 50... questions RE: Actiontec V2000H
Right now I'm on Telus 25 and want to upgrade to 50.. what is involved with this upgrade process? Will they have to send a tech out? If so, what will they do? I've already got my Actiontec V2000H working in bridge mode and I don't want them mucking around with that

Really? No 4HD/0SD profile?
Am I crazy, or is there a 4HD/0SD package for Telus customers on Fiber?
I only ask because I called up telus to see if they could provision my account to that profile and they said it didn't even exist.

Do they send you a modem and you just hook it up to your phone line or do they send a installer to your house?

Optik TV STB behind wireless
Anyone tried using a STB behind a wireless bridge? Our condo is old enough that there isn't coax run into one of the bedrooms and the cable run I need to do is long and crosses at least 1 doorway.
Will it even work?

New Telus Installation Questions
Hi all,
First off, I just want to say thanks for all the information you guys provide here. I always appreciate being able to look up other's experiences to make mine easier.
I'm getting Telus basic IPTV and Optik 50 installed this Friday in my new house. I just moved in and had a good look at what is pre-existing in the house. Right now, there are cat 5e cables all running into the powercabinet, with a fiberoptic drop coming in.
I have a couple of questions, which I could probably get answered after a long discussion with technicians and even then it might not be the right answer.
1. Will the installation technician re-terminate the cat 5e connections at the box into RJ45s? Currently I have cat5e running from wall plates un-terminated to a phone splitter. Will they terminate the user-end on the walls to RJ45?
2. I read somewhere (can't find it now) that they will provide switches when you get an installation. Is this true, or should I go and purchase the necessary switches for my network.
3. Currently my TV setup in the living room has an RG6 with no cat5e in the correct location. Would the technician install a new box and run a cat5e for me, or is this something that I should do myself beforehand. I want to put a switch in the living room to feed my ps3, xbox, wii, and TV.
4. I've read that you could use the STB's out if it is connected on RG6, but that option seems like a workaround solution. Would it be feasible, or should I just run a new cat5e?
For anyone interested, I'm getting both the basic optik tv and optik 50 internet for 55/month on a 1 yr tv contract. One STB is provided.
Again, thanks for your help!

Descrease latency on high speed 25 questions.
Hi all,
Can any of you advice me what to say to technical support when I call in about decreasing the latency on highspeed 25.
Back in Toronto, I know bell have something with interleave and fastpath. with fastpath the latency reduce almost half but with the sacrifice of speed.
Thanks,
Mike

[BC] Just Canceled, have 1 Question
ok so i canceled my telus the other night, i have a actiontec and a zyxel, telus canceled it for me all fine, but they said nothing about returning the router/modem combo's, just curious if there gonna bill me for these or what, if i do have to return one, id like to return the zyxel and keep my actiontec all bridged with tr-69 disabled so when the day comes they can offer me the 25 or the 50 the switch will be easier (even though i know i will probably need a v2000 then, but i wont get the 50 if the ping is any higher then the 25)

[Mobility] Les sites cellulaires Telus

Telus 50mbps
Hey guys.. i'm from Richmond BC and i just upgraded my optik 25 mbps internet to the 50mbps! :) I'm actually very happy.. Getting 45-50mbps download and upload speed is around 8-9mbps :)
They upgraded my router to the v2000h from v1000h.. the v2000h apparently uses 2 phone line and that is how my was configured...
My question is regarding the WIFI.. when devices connected to the WIFI.. what are the typical download speed am i suppose to get?
I was trying my phone, desktop that is connected using wifi and laptop with wifi.. Download speeds i'm getting is around 10-15mbps while the upload speed goes up to 8-9mbps.. Is it suppose to be like that or there's something wrong? With wired connection im getting the max download speed but for wifi its pretty slow.. Before when i was on 25mbps. .i think my wifi downlaod speed is also around 10-15mbps.. upgrading to 50mbps should make the download speed double right?
Any help or advice would be appreciated
Thanks!

[BC] 3 yr contract perks
Telus is offering rent-free hd pvr + 2 hd terminals if you sign a 3 yr contract. Is it possible to get something else instead of the 2 hd terminals if you only have 1 TV? The normal price for hd rental is $5/month, so instead of 2 extra terminals, maybe a $10 theme pack instead?

Anyone using ipv6?
Since it doesn't appear that Telus will be doing anything about ipv6 any time soon, I decided to set up a tunnel from hurricane electric. I disabled isatap and teredo on the windows 7 pcs and I set up google a/b and hurricane electric as the dns resolvers. I have a /64 and my router is allocating ipv6 addresses to all of my pcs. It's working well. My pcs pass the ipv6 test 10/10 and they favour ipv6 when it's available. I can monitor the amount of traffic going through the tunnel and there is a fair amount. It was quite easy to get it working and it's been very reliable. I wonder why Telus is being so tardy to implement ipv6, considering that other IPSs in the USA and Teksavvy here are doing it.

[AB] [AB] Telus 50 in Red Deer?
Figured I could make an account and post here.
Start with the TL:DR Is there telus 50 in Red Deer?
Alrighty, started on Monday.
We were changing some of our plans with telus. Removed some channels from the TV and that was all fine and dandy. We also decided to upgrading the internet because currently it really sucks to play games on less than 1 upload and having a minimum of 30 ping to the closest places. We check the availability of the telus 50 and it says its available, great! Only $25 more for 3x download and 10x upload.
They call us the next day to confirm it. They said the tech will be out Friday between 9 and 10 am. Awesome!
Well It's Friday and I move everything around so the guy/girl has access to the phone jack and my desk isn't going to be in the way. 10 rolls by, maybe hes a little late. 11 rolls by and i've never had someone be this late this. I hop online to chat just to ask how late they can be. He cant help me, gives me two numbers because the 1-888 number wouldn't accept my telus phone number. Lady sends me to tech support. He says he cant find anything, I give him the reference number and then after about 30 'interesting' he tells me my order was canceled, 50 is not available in my area.
Why say its available in my area then say its not? if it wasn't available then shouldn't the person that called have said so instead of putting it through? I went searching and there are other ISP's that use telus's network and they also say that their 50 download/10 upload is available in my area but it costs more and then without the bundle for tv and phone those would also go up.
I probably wouldn't be as if they called and said that it was canceled instead of making me wait and prepare for a person that's not coming.

Actiontec V1000H with NAS
Greetings one and all. I've been trying to hook up a NAS drive (Seagate Central - 4Tb) to my home network to share video with my televisions. It has not been going well. The Seagate will connect for a few minutes at most and then the Actiontec kicks it off and ceases to recognize that it's there (the Actiontec's green ethernet connection light goes out; the Seagate's light starts blinking red). For the few minutes that it will work, I was getting about 10-11 Mb/s transfer speeds from a computer drive to the NAS. There have been no error messages or other indicators as to what's gone wrong from what I can see in Event Viewer.
Has anyone else with this modem had difficulties attaching it to a network sharing drive? Any solutions?
I'm technically inclined, but have zero experience with this stuff - the modem I've never really played with and this is my first try at NAS. I'm on Win7, 64-bit.
Thanks in advance.

Actiontec V1000H bridge mode DHCP renew problems
I have an Actiontec V1000H in bridge mode, connected to my linux router (which worked 100% fine with shaw for years).
Every few days, my connection drops seemingly because something goes wrong with my DHCP renews on the public interface to Telus (maybe, or maybe it's actually more a DSL problem). Everything is going fine, then suddenly no connection. Can't even ping the default gw assigned by DHCP. Running dhclient manually on the interface tries to send a RENEW, as the lease has not yet expired, but all the traffic is blocked. I originally thought it was the modem, as power cycling the modem would fix the problem, but since I have discovered I don't actually have to touch the modem at all. If I explicitly release and then renew, I get a different IP, sometimes in a completely different range - it usually flips between an address in 75.158.x.x and some other range - looking in my leases file, it actually hasn't been in the other range for a while now, so I don't have the actual address.
I don't care that my IP changes, but it seems Telus just suddenly decides that it must change, right now, and blocks all traffic from my fomer IP, and it has no relation to the dhcp lease I got previously. The most annoying thing is I typically have many SSH sessions open that I was doing work in, and some web based logins as well that will retain the session as long as the IP remains the same, and every time this happens, all of them are dropped.
I talked to support, and while the person tried to be as helpful as she could, I didn't really get anywhere. She said they adjusted something and put a watch on my port for sync losses, and that it shouldn't happen anymore, but it's still doing the exact same thing. Whomever she was talking to that seemed to know more, apparently I couldn't talk to because "they don't talk to customers".
Anyone ever experience this and know how to fix it? I could write a shell script to check for connectivity, and if not, force a DHCP release / renew, but that seems like a real kludge hack. Symtex perhaps?!?

[BC] New phone line install time and material charges
A question for one of the TELUS techs. Can you advise what beyond the normal cost of a new telephone line ($115) is charged for new installations?
I have a new building that is off the highway by 6-7 hydro poles. Since it is a new building there is no close telephone lines that run nearby except down the highway. I was thinking that I pay for the new wiring on the other (customer) side of the demarcation?
I was told that the first 60 meters is no charge?
If you could shed some light that would be great. Thanks

Actiontec Port Forward Issue
Is there an issue with the Actiontec, where it won't forward ports?
For example, I forwarded a bunch of ports a few weeks ago, and then when I performed a test to see if the ports were forwarded, they weren't (even though they were present in Actiontec's port forwarding).
A reboot of the Actiontec fixes the issue, but it seems to arise again.
I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this strange problem and is there perhaps a solution to it?

[Mobility] Telus Performance
I received a marketing telephone call on my cell phone today, one of many, many such calls, this time from a person named Renu in New Delhi, India. She identified herself as calling from "Telus Performance", and, that she was "calling on behalf of Telus", and asked for me by my full name - so she must have access to that information from some source.
Parenthetically - and not necessarily about this call in particular, but about the whole cell phone/telemarketing thing - they always try to entice you with something ostensibly "free", but only if you do something that's not free, which is typically along the lines of committing to a three year contract at a rate of 'x' dollars a month, with 'x' free minutes a month. The company knows of course that most people will go well beyond those 'free' minutes, and the money they make will outweigh any cost of a mass produced cell phone they gave you for free (which probably cost them pennies), not to mention the extra options they offer which will also cost extra. In my case, when I got this phone in the first place, part of the inducement was $185 dollars worth of air time, and that I wouldn't start getting monthly bills until that was used up - the clerk made a small mistake in our conversation when she accidentally said the amount was $150 vice $185 - when I queried her about that, she quickly corrected herself and said oh no, you're right, it's $185 - and of course I discovered later that there was the ever-present 'one time activation fee' of $35. This is the reason for her slip-up - in actuality it really was $150, not $185, since they deducted the $35 dollar 'activation fee' right off the top. Okay, fair enough - you are a business, and you are in the business of making money - same as any other business. Why shouldn't you make money? But that's not the point - the point is, why do you have to lie, mislead, and deceive? Not to mention that I did not get a cell phone for the sole purpose of providing you a means of contacting me to try to sell me more cell phone related services and products. This does nothing but undermine my faith in your veracity, so if nothing else, this post may at least help you to understand why the general public is in such an uproar about cell phone companies. But I digress...
Ordinarily I have nothing but good things to say about Telus, and even this isn't categorically 'bad' - but I have had more of these marketing calls than I can count. They are always from a call centre in India, and they always say they are "calling on behalf of Telus". I always contact Telus after these calls, and Telus always tells me they (the call centres in India) are NOT calling on behalf of Telus. When I pointed this out to Renu today, she assured me that senior personnel from Telus come to India and provide training and information (read: names and phone numbers of Telus customers), and employ personnel to make such calls.
So there it is. They always says they are, you always say they're aren't. This is what always happens. Somebody gave them my full name and phone number, and it sure wasn't me. To be fair to Renu, she's doing what she gets paid for, and it probably beats unemployment, so while it may not be any 'fault' of hers, nobody likes getting these calls. She was quite pleasant on the phone, but it was easy to tell she was referring to the usual scripts, provided no doubt from market analysts who have figured out what most customers will say, and what the best response is to get them to change their minds. We all know the drill. To be more fair, after explaining to her the ongoing situation about these kinds of calls, she even offered to remove my name from the call list, but I pointed out to her that all previous callers from the same location offered to do the same, yet I always get another call - at the end of which, they too offer to take my name off the call list.
Anyway, last but not least - if it should turn out that Renu 'is' one of your employees maybe someone can tell her that my cell phone battery died right in the middle of her call. I absolutely do not like getting these calls, but I would never be so rude as to simply hang up while someone is talking (which is a basic human principle that telemarketers heavily rely on of course), unless they were rude in the first place, in which case I have no problem hanging up. But that was not the case this time, the line suddenly went dead and my phone shut off, and when I turned it back on again I got the low battery warning before it quickly turned itself off again.
