So I was thinking of giving them a try as tek dsl and cable just sucks in Calgary right now. I know many were getting free unlimited for a year. Is telus still being pretty easy to work with when it comes to giving that away?

No more ePost :(
One of the things I liked about Telus over Shaw was ePost. ePost is great to get all of your bills in a single spot (through your bank's website), rather than having to log into to each companies website separately to view/pay your bill.
I just got an email from Telus saying they're stopping the support of their bills on Epost. It never occured to me before but I wonder how much Canada Post charges retailers to have their bills on ePost. Apparently it's enough the companies are avoiding them (Shaw never use it, and now Telus is bailing). I don't think my natural gas company uses it either. I think that only leaves BC Hydro now :(

[BC] Telus DSL Port Availability (or lack of it).
I live in an area with great (minimal) dB loss, and awesome speeds... BUT, there are "no ports" - and yet, 3 or 4 times this month I've seen Telus installers installing TV for people. Which REQUIRES a port. I know ports are shared (retail and 3rd party wholesale providers) - could Telus be "fudging" their available ports for the benefit of potential "tripple play" clients? I've asked them directly if there are / when there will be ports - when I spoke to the installer he seemed confused that there "none available".
Any idea what's going on there? Or how of this happens? Or how to fix?
No one I've spoken to seems to have any idea (short of emailing the ceo and asking for greater transparency / accountability).
Thanks for your thoughts!

Bad speed and latency on DSL 6Mbps
I've been having this problem for at least a year, but it is getting pretty extreme now.
At first I would get slowdowns. Speed would drop to 2-3 Mbps during prime time, which I was ok with since it is to be expected.
But in the past few months it has been getting worse and worse. Speed frequently go under 1Mbps. When I ping google.ca, the latency either goes all over the place between 30 and 130ms, or stays above 100 for an extended period of time. Getting a lot of packet loss too.
The thing is, even though my connection is shit most of the time, there would always be 1-2 days in the week where my connection would be almost perfect. I would get above 4Mbps, latency would stay in the 30-40ms range and I would not get any packet loss. After they sent people over to my house 3 times in the last couple of months to replace my modem and cables and realising that the problem isn't inside the house, they sent someone to look at the DSLAM. Since then, there hasn't been a single day where my connection hasn't been complete shit.
I live in a pretty small town, so replacing their equipment is probably a no no. Is there anything else I can do or am I just out of luck until I move?
These results happen at any hour. Early morning, in the afternoon and even in the middle of the night at 2-3am.

[ALL] Would someone see if these CBC mp3 streams work?
CBC's music streams seem to think I am not in Canada. I checked with Telus who insist that all is well. I'm not using a proxy or anything weird to mask my location.
Please try streaming http://playerservices.streamtheworld.com/pls/CBC_SIGNAL_H.pls in vlc or similar and let me know what it does.
Also http://playerservices.streamtheworld.com/pls/CBC_CBCREC_H.pls, which explicitly tells me I am not Canadian. You should hear music...

does TELUS offer IPv6 natively on their network, at least for their new equipment (GPON/CE)?
Anybody know/try?

[ALL] Optik setup using the v1000h and Alcatel 7130
My setup consists of an Alcatel 7130 (A2010TEL) VDSL modem connected to the TELUS service. The output of the 7130 goes into a switch, which has connected to it my own router (for my wired and wireless LAN) and the Actiontec v1000h (for my Optik TVs). This setup has worked flawlessly for more than two years.
I just had my v1000h (firmware version unknown, I forgot to check that before the TTech took it away) replaced with a new one (FW: 31.121L.13). With the replacement v1000h I am losing signals to my TVs. I can't figure out why or what setting(s) may be in the (presumably) new firmware that would be causing this.
Does anybody else have any experience with something similar or any ideas what the issue could be?

ipv6 routing goes down under sustained high upload usage
I have Telus 50/10 DSL with the V1000h and have found an interesting situation. When the upload link is saturated (multiple uploads, e.g. torrents) for an extended period of time (e.g. 15-20 mins) the Actiontec stops ipv6 routing and all existing ipv6 connections are lost. This happens to all computers on the network not just the ones with the high upload. About 20 minutes later, ipv6 starts working again. Interestingly enough, rebooting the router does not seem to fix the issue although I have not tried this enough times to confirm.
Anyone else run into this issue? It's sometimes hard to notice because most OSes fall back to ipv4 transparently if ipv6 goes down. MS Outlook on Office 365 is an exception. You have to set up a ping to ipv6 address (e.g. google.com) to clearly observe the issue.

Telus HPNA question
ok, im going to be giving a router to a friend in the coming months in order to apply QOS on the upstream and give me the ability to VPN in if something needs troubleshooting.
he currently has
1 X V1000H
2 X WCB3000N
2 X SMC EZ Connect HPNA 3.0
1 X ISB7150
and 1 X of the standard wired boxes connected via coax HPNA
V1000H is master HPNA unit, each SMC EZ Connect HPNA 3.0 device is connected to a WCB3000N extender.
what happened was that initially the extender was put in another location because the cable in the back of the house where we wanted the extender wasnt lit up.
i got him to call and upgrade the extender to a WEB6000Q.
but what telus did instead, was bring a second SMC EZ connect HPNA 3.0 and another WCB3000N and got the cable to the back of the house lit up.
what this means is that the first extender is not needed and the first AP can go right beside the V1000H (which will need to be upgraded to a T1200 to do what i wanna do)
ok, now that the situation is explained i can get into it, im basically curious if i were to bridge the setup could i possibly take one of the SMC EZ Connect HPNA 3.0 adapters and use it as a master unit while using the other for the AP on the other side of the house, this would allow me to use the HPNA adapters with a bridged router.
if this was possible could then just get a wireless tv box and ap for the tv and just use coax for that, or if possible to have 2 masters units do that.
i think one of the hpna 3.0 adapters should be able to work as a master, what not sure about is if can have 2 masters on the same line and also use T1200H for the other tv box wired

[Mobility] Price changes new/upgrade mobility plans Jan 21 2016
What else is new. It's price raising season again...
http://mobilesyrup.com/2016/01/15/telus-and-koodo-raising-plan-prices-by-5-weakening-byod-benefits/
As with other carriers, Teluss price increases applies to all provinces except Quebec, Saskatchewan and Manitoba where, due to increased competition from regional incumbents Videotron, SaskTel and MTS respectively, prices remain considerably lower. Telus (including their Koodo brand) has followed its Big Three counterparts, Rogers and Bell, in implementing price increases across its entire plan lineup.
According to internal documents obtained by MobileSyrup, Telus cites economic and market conditions for raising the price of its Your Choice plans by $5 each starting Thursday, January 21st. Telus also plans to match Rogers and Bell in weakening the attraction for bring-your-own-device (BYOD) customers by raising the price of base service $10. For example, a customer that purchases an unlocked Nexus 5X from Google and signs up for a call plan with unlimited nationwide calling will now pay $50 per month instead of $40. Fortunately, that price is still $5 cheaper than what Bell and Rogers plan to charge for the same price tier. --

Unable to upgrade to Internet 25
Hi everyone I am attempting to upgrade internet 25, I am currently on internet 15. I have called Telus and was told internet 25 was reserved for Optic TV subscribers however after threatening to switch to Shaw I was told by a loyalty rep she would call tomorrow to upgrade me to internet 25 over bonded pairs. However she did not call. I called Telus again this time talking to a loyalty manager asking if I could be upgraded to internet 25 over my existing single line considering my line status was the following:
Levels Downstream Upstream
Line Rate: 17662 Kbps 1022 Kbps
Attainable Line Rate: 49320 Kbps 4193 Kbps
SNR: 22 dB 9 dB
Attenuation: 19.0 dB 0.0 dB
Power: 17.3 dBm -2.6 dBm
He called me back tonight denying my request saying my I was connected to a ADSL2 port and VDSL ports where reserved for Optic TV. I told him my modems Broadband Negotiated Mode was displaying VDSL2 - 8B but he said it was incorrect. Is there any hope for me to receive internet 25?

Enable Bridge mode on Actiontec V1000h - easy!
Hey guys, I'm in SK on Sasktel's fibre service and joined up here to share this. Actiontec V1000h was giving me all sorts of headaches and was able to get it into bridge mode quite easily. This should work on Telus afaik, maybe someone could try and post their results.
If you would like to use your own and not be forced to use this thing see below. I have no idea why this option isn't easily available and support telling people to put their router in the DMZ of the actiontec and running double NAT is silly.
Caveat: I do not have TV services and do not know how this will affect them, I remember from reading over on the verizon threads that bridging the actiontec breaks the TV signal or something.
First log in to the router using your gateway address, and the password that is on the back of the router. The option to place in bridge mode is under "advanced settings" - "WAN IP Addressing" however you won't see it because IT IS INVISIBLE.
To see it you need to open up the web developer tools on your browser (I did it in Safari) and go to show web inspector then find "transparent bridging" in the source code for the WAN IP Addressing page you are on. Edit the spot where it says "Display = none" to "Display = Block".
This pops up the option to show "enable bridge mode" in the actual router webpage at the top, select it and just click apply. You should turn off wireless before doing this. If you need to get back to the beginning and get out of bridge mode just hold reset on the router itself and start over.
Then just plug your WAN port of the router you would like to use into the #1 LAN port on the actiontec and your all set.
