IP addressing

Two questions: I have the actiontec V1000h router and one PVR and one setup box. On the advanced setup page and then to IP addressing I notice the PVR and the setup box are both added on the DHCP reservation list, but both addresses given are outside the DHCP range, is this okay. My next question: My Xbox 360 is wired to modem never wireless and on the Xbox network setup page it confirms it is wired, but on my router's home page the Xbox shows up as wireless so then I go to mac address control in the router and deny wireless access to the Xbox and then it will show up as Ethernet. Is it the router?

[BC] TELUS Optik - STB + Computer Connection?

I have GB LAN at home and solid wireless. One of the drops has our main family computer but we want to put STB there. Do the STBs have a way to toggle between watching Optik TV - OR - using the computer on LAN for normal internet access? Planning to get 30" LED with HDMI and DVI ports. I figured if it's on wired LAN it should be able to switch?? I would prefer not to have to move the computer...

[AB] Can't connect to Wireless network

I have an Actiontec V1000H and just bought a new laptop with Windows 8. When wired it connects to the Internet fine, but won't work on wireless. Every other device we have we simply connect to our WiFi network using the password, but this won't connect. Is there something we have to do with Windows 8 or the modem?

Hi, I got switched from High Speed 25 to 50 today and with my existing ALU setup I got consistent 25/3 on the 25, now I get 25-27/10 (wired). Is there any known issue with the ALU not allowing me to get higher download or is something else wrong? Thanks for all input.

[BC] Register Device page down?

Hi, I'm trying to access the register device page, such as: https://registerdevice.telus.com/login/login.do?action=login https://oca.bc.hsia.telus.net/login/login.do?action=login but I couldn't get in. I was able to login to the account page to see the billing, etc, but when I click on the register device page, it asked for username and password again. Then it would say the password is invalid. I've called telus and they didn't know why. They've even reset the password for me but I still couldn't log in. Does anybody have the same issue or is there other ways to register a new MAC address? Thanks.

[BC] Question about video streaming site in Asia

I am currently using the 25M plan from Telus and my neighbor is on 6M Telus plan, both non-optik. So my problem is when I am using my 25M internet (wifi) to stream video from Youku (China version of Youtube), I get around 20kbps as shown in the screenshot. The weird thing is that, when I connect to my neighbor's 6M Telus through wifi (his router is farther away from my PC, with more walls in between, thus higher ping and weaker signal strength), I can load the same video at 112kbps. We are both using the same gateway Actiontec V1000H. The only differences I can think of is my computer being closer to my own gateway and having an higher speed of 25M. But strangely my neighbor 6M internet with weaker signal yields a higher speed. Does anyone know why I get this lower speed even though I am on a higher speed profile and both are from the same ISP Telus? Would appreciate if someone from Telus or someone who knows about this sort of stuff can help me. Thanks in advance.

TELUS Hosted Email Improvements

So the last 6 months or so for customers who use TELUS email have been fairly painful, due to timeouts to the server, or webmail just not letting you log in. Starting Monday, TELUS is rolling out its new email platform. Initially, 7,000 customers will be migrated to the new platform, with the intention that the rest of the userbase will be brought over by the end of June/July. Main features - more stability and uptime - 5.0GiB (yes 5 gigabytes) of storage space per mailbox (this honestly impressed me, I thought 1 or 2 would be what we'd be rolling out) - newer/cleaner interface via webmail - for those who use IMAP, you should reselect your folders (Sent is now default, not sent-mail, for example) Now the initial question that is going to be asked by a lot of webmail users when they get migrated over. Q - how do I view my storage usage? A - at the top right, your name will be displayed. Hover your mouse over it and a popup will show you. I personally don't use TELUS email but I know this will be a relief for a lot of you. Hopefully it doesn't die on day 1 or anyday after. -- I may work for, but do not necessarily represent the views and beliefs of TELUS Communications.

Hello guys, just got basic 6 meg dsl hooked up with Telus and I'm getting very high pings, everywhere really. I've heard there are ways to get lower pings by getting a trained on a different profile. Is this true? and if so, how would I get that changed? Thank you!

Local DSLAM?

So, I've learned through reading this forum that the quality of my telus service is dependant on the distance from my house to my local DSLAM. Just wondering how I go about finding that out? There is one of these almost right in front of my house. I always see telus techs working on it. Is this what I'm looking for? [att=1]

[ALL] Asus RT-N66U

Hey guys. I am looking at getting the Asus RT-N66U. I have optik 50 and TV. Is this device suitable for connecting to the actiontech in bridge mode to run everything? Is there anything special I should know about it or custom firmware I should install to make it even better? (from what I've read dd-wrt is a bit complicated to do on this device, very easy to brick). If anyone has this router, let me know what you think. If anyone thinks there is something better for cheaper, let me know!! I am particularly interested in 5GHZ wireless as my condo building has 2.4GHZ overloaded to all hell.

Replacing a dead PVR - not as bad as you might think

Well, this was unexpected. Two days ago my Optik PVR refused to play back any recordings. I did the usual - restarted the PVR and after rebooting it would get stuck on the initializing screen. A cold reboot, reboot of the modem didn't resolve anything. A phone call to Telus tech support had me go into the diagnostics menus which ended up with the box stuck on the screen with the big red X. RIP one PVR. A tech came out the next day to replace the PVR (and the Actiontec just in case). I was resigned to the loss of a few recordings but more importantly I was dreading having to recreate a very long list of series to be recorded. Much to my surprise, and to the surprise of the Telus tech, my entire list of series to be recorded showed up on the new PVR. So, my question is - where did the PVR get the list from? Is this a known feature? My best guess is that it might have something to do with the Optik TV remote record service i.e when I registered to use it my series list was automatically synched to my account in the cloud so it could be retrieved by the new PVR. Or is this a standard feature that everyone else knows about that somehow I missed? Either way, a tip of the hat to Telus on this one. As well, this was my second Telus tech visit since install and I have to admit they seem to be doing a very good job in setting standards for their contractors.

Any plans for Telus Business 50?

Long story short, we could benefit from 10mbps+ upload without having to pay the $360/month Shaw would be asking for for anything above 5 mbps upload. A sticky point though is that we would need the modem to be in bridge mode.

bridging VSG1432 with wi-fi

I have a ZyXEL VSG1432 Gateway. H/W ver A0B. F/W ver 1.10(VFA.0)b7 I configured it for bridge mode, which works well for hardwired clients, but I think wifi was disabled in the process. Is it possible to use this device in bridge mode while still accepting wireless clients?
