Telus has started using an SFP module to remove the need for the optical network terminal (ONT) box. This allows for just the Actiontec T3200m to eventually be the only needed hardware. I don't know if the T3200m can use its phone ports for phone, which are on the ONT. Thread on an install: https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r32052910-BC-Telus-Purefibre-experience-Overall-Extremely-Happy-SFP-install . edit: July 12 2018. July 13 2018 to July 16 (special deals?), Telus will make the 250/250 into 300/300 (due to Shaw's new package of Internet-300/20). Areas stuck on 150/150 will then have 300/300 available. Pricing is uneven though. Interesting pricing depending on region, so far. For 300/300: Regular $90 interior BC (in the already existing Gigabit towns). $110 regular for random town...White Rock BC (formerly maximum Internet-150/150). Telus is also preparing for a move into fifth-generation wireless technology, which Entwistle expects to begin commercialization by 2019 and ramp up thereafter. . There is a difference between "PureFibre" and "Fibre" areas, in regards to pricing and packages. Messy. . For the faster speeds and heavy usage... The Fibre Optical Network Terminal (ONT) is the Telus modem. You can plug your personal router to the ONT and get service. If you also have Optik TV, you can plug gigabit switch to the ONT and use your router to one port with the Telus Actiontec to another port on the switch. You will get 2 WAN ip address (1 for each). Using your own router for both TV and Internet, you have to deal with TV multicast which can overwhelm your Wifi and shut down your router connectivity. You should also be able to use the Actiontec T series port1 bridge mode while on fibre. The Telus call center script readers will not support anything beyond their all in one Actiontec gateway. So deal with your own issues with your equipment. The ONT also has 2 POTS (plain old telephone service) ports for your phone, which can be adapted to connect to your current house phone lines if you don't have cordless phones. The ONT install might not be supplied with a UPS(uninteruptable power supply) if you don't subscribe to Telus home phone. You can use your own UPS to power the ONT. . ####################################### telus.com/en/bc/internet/fibre/communities https://www.telus.com/en/bc/internet/fibre/communities ########################################## . This amount is in addition to the $13.7 million that TELUS has already committed to investing in its incumbent territory. By 2021,TELUS will have invested over $300 million in its fibre-optic network. “Thanks to the support of the federal and provincial governments, we will be offering high-speed Internet access to 99% of the population of Eastern Quebec by 2021,” said François Gratton, Executive Vice-President, TELUS Partner Solutions, and President, Business Solutions East and TELUS Québec. “Since 2013, we’ve invested upwards of $300 million to expand our fibre-optic network in Quebec so that thousands of residents, businesses and public establishments can have access to a world-class network at competitive prices. “Thanks to the power of fibre, connected cities and towns will become regular users of the latest technology, which will enable 148 communities in Eastern Quebec, along with the 172 communities where we already offer the service, to connect at speeds almost 20 times faster than the new standards recommended by the CRTC,” . . For those who don't have 'credit history' or have 'bad credit', you choose 'no credit check' and will then pay a deposit which is calculated on what products you got, and that deposit (not available for payment use) will stay on your account until Telus says (several months later) you are now approved to use that deposit as a payment (balance) to your account. Credit check can be done with name, birth date, and address. No S.I.N. nor Drivers License number needed, as per the Privacy Commissioner. [AB] Bridged T3200M can't handle large amounts of concurrent connections

Basically what it says on the tin. I've tried with the bridged modem connected directly to my PC and the issue persists - the more connections I have open (open tabs keeping connections, bittorrent, etc), the more my latency increases and eventually page loads take 30+ seconds and the standard deviation of my ping to the first hop past the modem is above 100 (this happens around ~500 TCP sessions). Someone suggested that it may be that the modem isn't properly bridging and is still keeping a NAT table but I haven't the foggiest idea where to look with this. I've had the modem replaced (both are T3200Ms), things improved slightly but the issue persists. Connection is 150/30, neither direction is anywhere close to saturated 99% of the time. Where do I go from here? I say "ping" to telus tech support and they reply with "no no no I don't deal with those things I'll send a tech". The tech replaces the modem and leaves and things stay the same. Edit 0520 MST: Line quality tests are as follows Modem IP: http://www.dslreports.com/pingtest/nil/3541236 Router IP: http://www.dslreports.com/pingtest/nil/3541234 (I receive two WAN IPs when the modem is bridged, one is assigned to the modem and the other is assigned to whatever is on the bridged port) Edit: 0540 MST: MTR from QC based VPS: https://i.imgur.com/SS6jugT.png

Anyone familiar with the smarthub stats to say if these are reasonable? With everyone powered off/disconnected and laptop hard wired in I'm lucky to see 20Mb/s download and 5Mb/s upload. Also noticed the signal bar on the front of unit itself and signal bar in WebGUI are vastly different. b612s-51d RSRQ -12db RSRP -115dbm SINR -4db

Eero mesh with Telus T.V.

While I'm waiting for my delivery, I thought I'd enquire here. I am currently using the Actiontec+extender that Telus supplied me with many years ago. Actiontec is in the utility room basement, no wifi but running the network. Extender is on the main floor and currently mediocre coverage for the whole house.(3100sq feet.). STBs are on main floor wired beside the extender and top floor bedroom on wifi. I do have cat5e and coax in the top floor bedroom but the coax needs to be terminated and the Ethernet doesn't work, or goes somewhere mysterious in my walls and doesn't go to the utility room where there are 2 other unterminated cat 5e cables.... If I get the Eero set up bridged so that the Actiontec still handles DHCP will I run into issues with my Telus TV boxes?

Is my data encrypted in transit and at rest? Yes. Gmail (messages and attachments) and Calendar (events and descriptions of events) are encrypted in transit and at rest. Data is encrypted at several levels. Google forces HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) for all transmissions between users and G Suite services and uses Perfect Forward Secrecy (PFS) for all its services. Google also encrypts message transmissions with other mail servers using 256-bit Transport Layer Security (TLS) and utilizes 2048 RSA encryption keys for the validation and key exchange phases. This protects message communications when client users send and receive emails with external parties also using TLS. What is a recovery password/SMS? Why are you asking me for this? They are ways to verify it is you signing in or to reach you if there’s suspicious activity in your account. Where can I change my username and password once I have migrated? If you have a recovery email/sms setup you can use Gmail "Forgot Password" process. If you do not, you can use the self-help tools to change your password. To change your username, please contact TELUS. Will I receive ads from Google now that my email has migrated to Gmail? Google does not have access to your email for marketing purposes. How long will my email be stored? Gmail messages are retained until fully purged by Google. When you move a message to trash, it is flagged for deletion. Either 30 days later or if you empty the trash folder, messages will be deleted. There is a recovery period for email when a support person can restore deleted messages up to 25 days later. Otherwise, the messages will be unrecoverable. For calendar events and contacts, there is no recovery period. If you remove an event or a contact, that information is fully purged from Google’s systems.

Internet for good: digital schooling

. BC and Alberta So for those people who still have the grade school system wanting to keep schooling the kids, Internet for Good: K-12 Student. I guess the system works that a parent has told the school to piss off with digital education, as the home does not have high speed Internet, so the school then grants a coupon sent to the home, so the home can then use it to get one of various forms of Telus high speed Internet. . The Digital Divide becomes very obvious when school/library buildings shut down and those without high speed internet at home, and of course a good computer, get treated as second class people. Will be interesting to see how 'passing the grade' is administered in June/July 2020. Be aware that any remote programs (screen share, etc) can be a security risk to your personal computer (install program? or not?). There is also a security risk for those using school issued laptops (key logger, screen capture, camera activation) , as you might use the laptop for things beyond for school exclusively. For those with connected cameras, be aware of any background objects that might be deemed not to be shared with multiple parties on digital school computer resource sharing. . https://www.telus.com/en/about/news-and-events/media-releases/telus-launches-new-internet-for-good-program-for-k-12-students TELUS launches new Internet for Good program for K-12 Students offering high speed internet at home for only $9.95 per month Local school boards to work with TELUS to ensure all K-12 students get high speed access to the internet to continue learning from safety of their home Vancouver, B.C. – As British Columbians adjust to new ways of living amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and teachers work with parents to enable their children to learn from home, TELUS announced it is working in partnership with local school boards across the province to offer its Internet for Good program to students in need. TELUS’ Internet for Good provides high speed broadband internet at home for only $9.95 per month. [AB] Better way to get in contact with Telus about address issue?

In late 2018, I got the notice that fibre was now available at my address. I signed up for 300/300 online and the guy came out to do the install. He was here for a while and, I think, pulled the fibre through. Eventually he told me there was something up and he could not complete the install (I forget the details by now). He would have to talk to the networking team. They looked into it for many months and during this time the website stopped saying my address could get fibre. Eventually I got a call saying all was good even though the website still said I could not get fibre at my address. I called in and the guy on the phone verified I could. While on the phone with me, he started getting the network team to do the last steps to allow the installation to proceed as their end would take a while. As we waited for the network team to finish, sadly, in the months since my initial signup, the price had increased drastically and they refused to honor the old price (or anything close to it). I told them to not bother and he got the network team to stop whatever they were doing. I ended up going with a different provider. So, the website continued to say fibre is not available at my house. Now, working from home during this mess, I would really like the higher upload speeds available to fibre, but their website still states I can't get that. I can only get the 150mbps package. I've talked to 2 reps who both seem to just run the tool and think I can't get it. Now, it's a bit weird if I check online. There is a row of about 5 houses that it says fibre is not available to, but everything around it can get it (including a bunch of houses built at the same time as mine, by the same developer). Is there any way to get someone to dig deeper into this for me? An email address or the like I can contact them at? I know they must be crazy busy right now but it would make my work a lot easier if I could get this done. No other provider in my area offers upload speeds even close. Thanks!

Gigabit Fiber Install during Pandemic

Just had my service turned up today in a new house build. Techs are not allowed in the home currently so the install went a different that normal. They pulled the fiber cable back outside of the house to the PVC LB and installed a box on it and patched it there to a 5 meter fiber patch cable which he pushed back into the house. Tech left a 3200M modem with SFP onboard on my porch which i setup in the basement and connected the fiber patch cable. I asked about a seperate ONT which he said they are not installing currently with the restrictions about accessing the customer home. Worked out well for me as i was after the SFP anyway so i didn't even need to ask for it! Pulled the SFP out of the 3200 and put it into my Mikrotik CCR1009 and I haven't had a hiccup out of it all day so far. Solid 950/950 speeds which will make my working from home situation a little quicker when moving data projects back to the office.

Fibre contractor dispute results in liens on homes St Albert

Freaking abusing the lien system. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/liens-telus-st-albert-homes-dispute-1.5453780 Some St. Albert homeowners who were unwittingly dragged into a dispute involving Telus contractor Ledcor and its subcontractor will have the liens removed from their homes by Thursday. "The liens are in process of being removed," Copperline Excavating president Jamie Black said in a written statement to CBC News Wednesday. "Ledcor and Copperline have resolved this matter." Telus is upgrading its fibre optic service across the province. The work in St. Albert was contracted to Ledcor, which subcontracted work to Copperline Excavating, a Spruce Grove company. .... one of the homeowners caught up in the dispute. She had many questions when she discovered a lien for $103,633 in her mailbox on Tuesday night. ..... He [Hoff] did say Copperline's decision to take out liens on homeowners was a "little unusual." "They've chosen to bring in some innocent bystanders into this situation that are really not involved," Hoff told CBC News in an interview on Wednesday. Dispute resolved ..... Telus issued an apology to the affected residents and said work was underway to resolve the situation as quickly as possible. https://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/liens-filed-against-st-albert-homeowners-caught-in-middle-of-contractor-dispute-1.4799248 TELUS has since released a statement saying the liens were issued "without reasonable grounds" and it was working to clear the liens as soon as possible. "We are very sorry to those that have been affected and for any inconvenience this has caused, and are committed to ensuring this is fully resolved," said a TELUS spokesman. "Starting tonight, residents can expect to see our team in the community, going door to door to answer questions and ensure they remain informed." https://www.stalberttoday.ca/local-news/liens-placed-on-homes-to-be-resolved-as-quickly-as-possible-update-2-2073197 https://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/i-don-t-have-91-000-st-albert-homeowner-trying-to-sell-house-slapped-with-builder-s-lien-1.4802803 "For us, if we got an offer on our home, I'd have to clear a $91,000 lien off before the transaction could complete. And I don't have $91,000," she said. ..... When initially reached by CTV News Edmonton, Copperline Excavating said the liens were filed against the utility right of way on those properties because the company says it was not paid by Ledcor. .... Hours later, TELUS said the three residents selling their properties had their liens removed. Tribe confirmed to CTV News Friday night, the lien was lifted. There is not a 'utility right of way' on private property. There is a 'utility access path' (from lot line to building). A 'utility right of way' on private property would be on a registered easement (one or more types: in-ground, in-air, on-surface). Legal definitions are fun. Multi-dwelling properties will be defined slightly differently, with the Telco/Powerco having access from street to the utilities room before spreading out to all units on the property. What a freaking mess. When registering a lien, a person needs to understand the part about 'I declare that all stated in this document is 100% the truth, under penalty of perjury.'

[AB] Pure Fibre for a Condo

A bunch of this might be best answered by a telus rep but I'd like to hear what the community says anyway. Background: I live in an in-fill condo in Edmonton Oliver area. It was build before fibre installs but it is wired with Coax and cat5e from the boiler room. Also, from the pole in the back alley it's all modern conduit. Q1: Why has Telus intentionally avoided fibre roll out to one of the most densely populated areas of the city? Also everything is on polls here. Are they so afraid of dealing with high population areas? Last I checked they had deployments about 2 blocks away North of 104 Ave. Q2: Networking units in my condo is trivial. I have research to do here but setting up Vlans and a QoS of somekind on a decent switch is probably all that really needs to happen. How does Telus feel about "reselling" their connection? I think we'd set it up as part of condo fees, and it is "free" to owners, managed by the condo corporation but all of it would be Telus. Q3: Who would I have to talk to at Telus to inquire about getting fibre to the building for a system like this? Do they have a department specializing in this?

Anyone using a fax machine with Telus fibre?

I finally replaced a failed all-in-one printer, and have been testing the fax. However, since the old machine died, we've moved to fibre - and the new machine will not connect to HP's test number (1-888-473-2963). Should it? Not that it's something I use very often, but...

How to connect dual phone line into my dsl modem

I'll try to explain this best I can and have some pictures Moved into a new house and got telus dsl internet, long story short I found out there is supposed to be 2 phone lines running into my dsl modem but they guy only installed one.. I'm trying to figure out how to hook up the 2nd but it's confusing Look at my pictures, it looks like the original house when built had no land lines just internet cable phone so the only wires running inside from the outside box is a cat5e cable that's seems to be connected to where phone lines would be connected The installer disconnected wire #1 and #2 then connected those 2 wires into a female phone jack then used a standard phone line cable from that connector to my modem Look at my pictures and my description will make more sense Should I just connect wires #3 and #4 to another female jack then to the second phone line port on my modem my first time posting I might have screwed up the image placement I can take more pictures of the set up Modem is telus wifi modem T3200M

B890 Bridge Help and BufferBloat

Hey Everyone, So I’m currently using a Huawei B890 LTE hub from Telus, It surprisingly works really well with a consistent ping of 50ms and downloads of 20mbs. While I know it’s not amazing it does it’s job. My current issue is gaming. When I’m the only one on the network it’s fine, the moment someone loads a site tho the in game ping skyrockets to 1000ms when it’s normally 70ish. Now when I speed test even when loading videos and such the ping is steady so I don’t think it’s connection problems, and I don’t think someone loading Instagram should use all the LTE bandwidth which leads me to believe is bufferbloat. So is there a way to fix it? The B890 says it supports bridge mode so would connecting a router with better load management help? If that’s the case how do I get the B890 to bridge? I’ve searched and can’t find anything. I ran a Asus AC1900 setup and got it to connect to the Huawei but it said it had no internet, even tho there was internet to the B890.
