Hi to all
I am with Telus right now and I got one year free internet and upgrade from Telus Internet 25 when I move into my apartment last year. The contract is going to be expire in Feb 2015.
In terms of costs, if I don't want cable or Optic TV at all, just need Internet connectivity, may I know which provide would you suggest ? I live in Coquitlam, BC.

[BC] Two PS4 and NAT type problem with Telus V1000H
Hi.
I'm using Telus Internet service and I find that more than one PS4 with one public IP seem like causing NAT type problem.
I have two PS4 systems and this is causing NAT type problems in games. When I was with Shaw I just hooked the switch to Shaw modem and got two separate IPs - so no problem there.
I searched a lot from Google and most of them are outdated and did not apply to my situation.
I do not have Optik TV I only have Internet service from Telus (Internet 25).
Here are what I tried and did not really work well (i.e., randomly gave open/moderate NAT type):
1. Put both PS4 to have dedicated internal IPs using the DHCP reservation function of the modem (firmware version 31.121L.13 - the latest as far as I know).
2. No DMZ setup and used pure uPnP function of the modem:
Random open/moderate NAT type. uPnP also automatically added port forwarded and the ports did not change.
3. One PS4 into DMZ and the other with required ports forwarded. I had uPnP disabled since it kept adding ports for the DMZ IP. Weird and annoying:
PS4 that is in DMZ seems like to have open NAT type but the other port forwarded PS4 gets random open/moderate NAT type. With the same settings and uPnP enabled, both PS4s get random NAT type.
Those are all I have tried so far. Is there more I can try? If I can't find a solution, I will have to switch back to Shaw :( Very disappointed with Telus Internet. Its technology and modem seem ancient.
Some help would be appreciated. Telus representative had no idea.

[AB] Any hope for V1000H bridge mode?
Hey Guys,
I had a T1200 modem/router combo that was working great for the past while without any issues. I had it setup in bridge mode with my own EdgerouterLite & AP's around the house all working great with optik TV. Unfortunately we had a power surge in our building and the T1200 died. It was replaced with a V1000H on the firmware listed below. Telus will not switch it out with the same model I had before and unfortunately it appears this router does not have a bridge mode available to the user. This happened a couple months ago and I decided to just stick it out with the V1000H but now I am having random issues with it and every time a telus tech has come out it happens to be fine so he resets it and leaves. Starting to get a bit fed up with this process and would just like to have my old setup back.

100/20 , bridge, all just works
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4072885347 I am bridged and it all just works. If DL is a bit less than 100, I can't care less: for my work upload matters and that's ten times as fast as Shaw gave me. My poor old D-Link 825 can't push 100 mbit over wifi (the speedtest was wired) but it can do the upload (yay) so new router is not too urgent but a TP-LINK TL-WDR4300 is on the way.
I cancelled Shaw, pointed out that they have been consistently dropping even the promise of anything faster: Gigabit trial, nothing happened, Broadband 250 package disappeared and this January they dropped the speed of their tiers and their fastest is 3mbit upload which is pathetic not that the previous fastest offer at 5mbit wasn't. They even admitted I have a valid point...

[BC] Telus Internet is not available where you live?
The telus' online availability check reports my address as having no Internet service available.
http://i.imgur.com/hPUSwdc.png?1
At first I thought this was a glitch of the web site, but it has been consistent, and going on for at least six months. I currently have 50/10 service (bonded lines) from telus, so clearly the information provided is not entirely accurate. :)
This would not be a huge deal, except it effectively prevents me from being able to consider a different provider. Apparently, they all seem to be using some version of the tool telus uses, and only qualify my address for up to 15/1 service.
I chatted with somebody at telus, and was told that the reason why this is happening is
quote:because your address is now on transition period for an upgrade to Internet service higher speed that is why the website does not show an availability of the service.
Great, but how long will this upgrade take - months, years? I was also told that:
quote:There are instances that certain speed plan is remove in the area and we keep the service of clients who availed it.
Currently, the fastest speed we can offer for new clients in your area with Internet service only is Internet 15.
Does this make any sense? I was under the impression that the speed telus offers should not depend on whether you get tv or not in the mix. Should not telus' competitors being given a chance to match the speed that telus is currently providing?

[BC] TELUS internet in my neighbourhood
I live in a more rural neighbourhood in Pitt Meadows that has never had cable/high speed internet available for customers. In the past this was more of an inconvenience than anything else, however with the way the world is moving with technology it is becoming increasingly frustrating to not have an affordable, reasonable high speed internet option. We currently have a rogers high speed hub that has good quality service but is OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. I have been in contact with people at Telus trying to determine what it would take to bring highspeed internet down our road but no one seems to be able to give me an answer. Anyone here have a similar situation or can point me in a direction where to proceed next? I know that in our neighbourhood people would be willing to help pay for the cost of installing the infrastructure needed.

Alcatel Cellpipe modem...
...does anyone still use these? I was digging through my cabinet 'o' hardware (I received the final order from my wife to 'clean it up, so help me god' ... /flees) and found it sitting around, gathering dust and wishing for electrons to be moving through its silicon innards.
I have a bonded line and a V2000H now, so obviously can't use it.
Worth selling on kijiji, or should I just bring it to the Ecostation and wish it a happy melty/ripped apart/thrown away status?

What a Gong show
So a few months ago I called Telus got them to replace my Actiontech V100H P.O.C with the Actiontech T1200H which is vastly Superior to the V1000H which drops WiFi and cant reach more then a few feet in my house. The T1000H actually penetrated practically the whole house and upstairs with out issue.
Now the fun begins, last week had service issues with TV tech came out swapped everything out including the T1200H and to my shock when i came home replaced it with another V1000H man was i peeved
between using Telus services at my in-laws and at my own place i probably had half a dozen Actiontech V1000H models sent to my location and all i had to do was hook it up myself. no charge for install or hardware
now.......
Today I talked to Telus in the online chat requesting the T1200H be deployed to me as i was much happier with that unit then the V2000H they just gave me they are telling me it will cost me 100 dollars to have a tech come out and hook it up but why should I pay? I never had to pay in the past nor did i have to have a tech come out they sent me the modem i plugged it in it worked. I am an IT professional who isn't able to afford to keep taking time off work for Telus and tercentenary has the intelligence to hook up a router. modem combo and make sure the TV works.
I seen what the techs do they come in hook up the modem turn on the TV bang everything works I am pretty sure that isn't that hard for me to do
Contract for Internet and TV is up in February about fed up with this treatment going to cut services

A few questions about Telus Internet:
I've posted in this thread a number of times. I've been away from Telus for 3.5 years now. I'm moving and getting tired of Shaw's constant price increases (which to be fair, Telus has also had their fare share of increases).
I use Shaw BB50 which is in a bundle, but I think it works out to 83 a month. To save money I want to break by bundle and cancel cable. This would force me to go to bb60 which is 90/month. Not to mention Shaw would charge me $45 to move my services to another address. I'll save myself $60/month by cancelling cable.
I was originally leaning to using an independant IP but most of them only offer 25mbps in Victoria. Mostly for around $55ish / month for unlimited + dry loop.
Telus seems to offer a discounted rate for 6 months and 50mbps so I thought I'd go back to Telus for a while:
1) I'm a big fan of Bridge Mode. Apparently it's hit or miss if the all in one they give you supports bridge mode. I read you can buy a Zyxel modem, doesn't anyone know the model, or a link. I'd probably be willing to buy a modem if they give me an all in one that doesn't allow bridge mode.
2) Is UBB still not being enforiced? The last thing I read was that they were trialing it in Prince George (and maybe a few other remote places) but the majority of the province wasn't on UBB. Thus for the time being I shouldn't have any issues with going over the cap (allthough my usage will appear on my bills).
I know that's a long winded email, but bridge mode and going over the cap are the two most important things to me. I probably do 600gb to 800gb a month (in my household).

[AB] Telus V1000H firmware updated, my VOIP phone stop working...
Hi All,
Last night noticed my internet suddenly stop working, after reboot both VDSL modem and V1000H router found the firmware updated to 31.121L.13.
Everything looks fine and back to normal, but turned out my VOIP phone stop working. Still got dial tone, can answer incoming call, but can't call out anymore. Try to call another phone line, caller ID showed as normal, picked up the phone but can't hear anything; at the VOIP phone side didn't hear anything after completed the dial...
Checking the port forwarding setting on the V1000H, 5060 UDP, 6802 UDP and 16384-16482 UDP still forwarding to VOIP box, and the it's also in DMZ.
Wonder does anyone has similar issue like me?
TIA!

Mac address
Yesterday all day I was unable to use my Xbox 360 online, turns out our PVR had taken the mac address from my Xbox. The only way I could get it working was to factory rest the router then turn on the Xbox, set up a static IP using DHCP reservation (which it already and has always had) and then turn on the PVR, if I turned on the PVR first or before I set the xbox's static IP it would take the Xbox's mac address.

Report on T1200H installation
So, Telus has finally released VDSL2 Routers that can be switched to Bridged mode without the hassle of using non-standard firmware. Both the Actiontec T1200H (single-adsl-line) and the Actiontec T2200H (dual-adsl-line) are available.
After successfully going through the procedure for upgrading from a Thompson SpeedTouch to a T1200H with a friend of mine - using Bridge Mode to work with his own Asus RT-AC66U - I finally decided to bite the bullet and upgrade myself.
-
I Called "Loyalty and Retention" - and went through the procedure to upgrade my service. Arranged a Truck Roll for the T1200H. A Telus Installer (not Contract) showed up on time as promised.
Made the physical changeover to the T1200H. The Telus Installer opened the Admin GUI, Selected the "Advanced" Tab, Selected the Bridge Mode option and enabled. After both T1200H and AC66U reboots - the AC66U came up to the Telus Admin Page - where I had to accept the Terms of Service. No other navigation was possible on the systems connected to the AC66U until this step was performed.
Once the TOS was accepted - I got a proper and separate external IP for each of my Routers. (I have two external IPs authorized - one for my Primary Asus RT-AC66U Router and another for my Secondary D-Link DIR-655 Router.)
-
Results and Observations:
1. The Asus RT-AC66U has QOS capabilities of its own. If these are enabled and the settings are more restrictive than those of the Telus Service you have selected - the RT-AC66U will throttle both Upload and Download speeds to the specified rate(s) during a speed test. I expect this is the case for many high-end third-party Routers.
Note: I was foxed by this initially - in that my Rates were as specified for my old service. I couldn't figure out why I was getting the proper Download Rate for my upgraded service - but not the correct Upload Rate. It was only after I carefully checked my own AC66U configuration that I discovered my oversight.
After making the proper configuration change to my Upload Rate on the AC66U (to match what Telus was actually providing to me from the VDSL2 Port) - speed tests accurately reflected the QOS parameters imposed by my VDSL2 port on the RDU. I was finally getting full speeds in both directions as defined by my Service Level.
2. Telus has several different profiles available for the various speed grades. The appropriate profile selection varies - depending upon load conditions at your particular RDU and the line conditions on your particular copper-line-pair. During testing and qualification - my Installer contacted Tier2 support - and he tweaked my Upload speed to the best profile available for my area and distance from the RDU.
3. It is possible to leave the Wireless on the T1200H enabled - even though Bridge Mode to Port1 on the back of the T1200H is enabled as well. Thus, it is possible to have two wireless Radios in the same area. When the Telus Installer was here - we were running that way so he could administer the GUI for the T1200H from his tablet while I administered the GUI for the AC66U from my desktop.
However, at the end of the configuration process, we shut off the Wireless service in the T1200H as a possible security vulnerability. In this configuration, the T1200H can be administered by connecting any computer using a wired Ethernet connection to Ports 2, 3 or 4 on the back of the T1200H - and logging in to the URL specified on the T1200H's configuration sticker.
4. BTW, the only difference between the T1200H and the T2200H is the presence of the second ADSL-line-jack on the back of the unit. The two jacks permit the T2200H to run in bonded mode - if two VDSL2 ports are available at your RDU for a pair of Telus ports to be connected to the T2200H.
Note: There is no useful purpose served by using a T2200H in place of a T1200H if only single-line ADSL Service is available. Similarly, if the user does not wish to incur the cost of bonded service - a T1200H is all that is required.
Kudos and General Congratulations:
1. Thank You to Symtex for your persistence in finally getting upper management at Telus to allow for an ISP-Authorized Bridging-Option on Telus Router hardware. This is very much appreciated and deserves commendation.
